Charging batteries

Both positive (+) connected together and both negative (-) connected together? If so, 12Volt system. 2 batteries used to increase capacity.

Personally I like to take batteries OFF the machinery and store somewhere warmer than a cold shed.

Id charge them individually then stick a MAINTANENCE charger on them during the winter to keep them healthy.

There is a difference between charging and maintaining.
I would never do this on a modern electronic system. You may find when re installing that some parts have lost memory

I would not risk it, but little battery conditioners are cheap as chips and really need nothing removing to keep battery topped up.
The danger on double battery systems is only one seems last the course and I have no clue why. It was a common problem on the 40 series John Deeres

Have you ever come across it? I know I haven't and I don't know anyone that ever has but I have heard it mentioned before too.
Yes ours combine did it last winter. Battery went flat when we started it it had lost all it's memory so it now has no total for hours acerage .and lost settings .it shouldn't have there must be a backup battery in the circuit board that has failed.not real suprising as it's 26 years old

that’s the problem. If you drain the backup battery because of removing the main batteries you might have trouble. I believe some machines are made in way that means these batteries (button cells) are nearly impossible to access.

It always happens like that.we tend to run the older smaller stuff on batteries left over from the bigger twin battery machines witch always get a matching pair of new when needed

Yes I think it's what caused ours.i didn't want to pull it apart to investigate as it was a month before harvest anddidnt want to risk not having it running.i will have to have a look before next harvest .I just re set the settings needed and didn't turn of the battery isolator
