Charolais Bull Angus cows

After a new bull, going back to Charolais on Angus cows after a few years out, wondering what sort of Charolais would be best, as there a lot of different types these days, can you get the shapey ones that are still easy calving ? Or do the shapey ones still have the growth of the classic types.

This is the bull we would have bought from Welshpool Saturday if we needed another one this year. We want size length with a nice rounded shape but not all arse. And most of all got to be east calving

What’s his name so I can look at his breeding. What’s his calving like?
He was a Harestone bull used extensively on their February Sale Heifers & sold at Thainstone at the Spring Show for not a huge amount - looked better in the flesh

Why have you decided to go with a Charolais but then don't know what type to go for? 🤔
What are you hoping the bull will add to your calves? Work back from there.

Or make the sensible decision and buy a Blonde 😉👍

It’s been 15-18 years since we used Charolais across the board (changed away so could breed own replacements) Asking about them as the shape and type of them seem to be changing since used to buy bulls so wondering if those big arsed ones are hard calvers at hips etc ?

Not going breed bashing but the blondes aren’t wanted much at local store sales.

You ask a very valid question @Chev54 , most of the breeds have sub-sections within them now - Easy/Slightly Plainer, Medium & Extreme, modern Charolais breed is no different.
Getting the choice right for the cows you keep & the system you run along with your target market are the fundamentals.
A Charolais Breeder who also breeds AA is usually a good reference point & would be where I'd start asking the specifics.
The modern 'White Limousin' look usually make big money, however, I've watched breeders selling taller slightly plainer rangey young bulls for little money which have turned into fantastic commercial crossing bulls, its getting that balance.

I only ask as a friend, who's dad used Charolais bulls a similar length of time ago, bought himself a Charolais last year after years of using other breeds. He sold him this week! So not always best to look at breeds with rose tinted spectacles
