Hi so I’ve recently bought some nice texel mule ewes and a Charolais ram just wanted to ask if this would make some nice lambs
Alright perfect would you lamb them indoors or lamb out then bring them in as I know Charolais lambs are the hardiestWhy would you want to put anything else on a Texel Mule?
Seriously though, a Charollais x Texel (whichever way round) is one of those magic crosses that just works.
Except when the ewe makes up the Charollais part.Seriously though, a Charollais x Texel (whichever way round) is one of those magic crosses that just works.

Yeah thanks they should do well we got some nice grass forI would say on paper it is a great cross. I would do the same if we had Charolais genetics here in the US.
The actual performance you get from that cross is dependent on a lot of factors.
How localized they are to your system and how healthy the stock is and can remain so in your production environment.
Good luck. You should do well.
Except when the ewe makes up the Charollais part.
Alright thanksMy Charollais X lambs seem to cope just fine lambing outdoors, just as well as Highlanders, NZ Texels, etc, and certainly hardier than Exlanas and Charmoise (just from breeds used here over recent years).
Location would play a large part in that.Alright perfect would you lamb them indoors or lamb out then bring them in as I know Charolais lambs are the hardiest
Yeah well we live in Devon do not a particularly cold place and ewes seem to have a decent fleece on themLocation would play a large part in that.
As would the ewe type, if your ewes are off a bare type of Texel and the bare part from the Blue comes through, combine this with a Char and you could have some pretty vulnerable lambs.
Any tup would give you nice lambs out of Texel Mules.Hi so I’ve recently bought some nice texel mule ewes and a Charolais ram just wanted to ask if this would make some nice lambs
