Cheap sprayer antifeeze

Was wondering about small amount ammonium nitrate for temporary.
Ammonium Nitrate is corrosive stuff, I wouldn't advocate leaving it in a sprayer especially with cast centrifugal pump housings or hydraulic oil / spray 'Bowman' type coolers, or where there might be any brass fittings / bungs (eg. Hypro pumps).

Urea would be a safer bet.

Might lose 5 l at most and not through the nozzles as only turn them on for a second, its usually pipe work. More if you don't drain the tank though.

I mix 20l of antifreeze and 120l of water in a 200l barrel, draw it out for cold weather and pump it back into the barrel when I need to go spraying ready for next time.(y)

You wouldn't want traces of Kerb in that mix if you wanted to spray some cereals during the winter!

Liquid fertiliser is used here, & I draw it from a tank that will only be used for osr first thing in the spring, just in case. The only bit I worry about corrosion on is the pump housing which is cast iron. The rest is stainless steel.

Ok how much is 200l of liquid fert??
50l of antifreeze would be about £60-65

I can't remember the price for what I have in stock but it's around £180/1000 litres in bulk. You'd be best off talking to a local user of liquid fertiliser & taking an empty IBC with you to fill up. To dispose of it afterwards, simply add it to the tank of spray solution in the spring.

 We do swill it out after anti freeze has been pumped out or in for that matter!(y)

Sorry. I didn't mean to tell grandma how to suck eggs but Kerb is a suspension concentrate which settles out in the lines. Liquid N and glyphosate are pretty good cleaning agents which lift any deposits. I've had a few blocked nozzles when switching to glyphosate & it's amazing what you find in the nozzles - yellow stains even after dozens of non pendimethalin loads
