Cheapest wd 40 substitute?

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people will be to save a few quid , I like my shooting and occasionally on the shooting forums someone will come up with an idea that using car engine oil/ diesel / ATF etc is slightly cheaper than proper gun oil , a tin of gun oil is around £10.00 and will last most shooters year or more , regulary using the wrong stuff increases your chance of dying an early unpleasant death considerably.

Shooting can increase your chance of death if you aim it the wrong way too

WD40 possibly not safe either , when chemicals you are using give a tingling sensation in your hand you know its penetrating the skin , wearing gloves is not that difficult and in nearly every other industry you'd be shown the door for not using them when required to , however the only potential cancer victim is the one not bothering to wear them.

The reason garages give out gloves for diesel pumps is not because it stinks its because its known to be carcinogenic.
Id use gloves often enough, from the tiger grips to the mechanix ones but they just don't suit all the time,
i have a dispenser for barrier cream id put on in the workshop tho.

i often seen my late father washing his hands in diesel (not the right thing to do obviously) after working at an engine when i was a child, he died at 93, dimensia got him in the end but he had a good innings.
my mum has cancer and she was a nurse all her life.
its a strange old world.
