Checking a number plate

Is there anyway of seeing who owns a HGV truck? We are getting repetitive unauthorised use of a weighbridge and would like to know who is doing it. Its always the same truck with the same plate but we have never been on site when it turns up which is on a sporadic basis. Its driving onto the bridge taking a weight and then leaving. No paper work or anything like that and no sign writing on the truck or trailer from what we can see on a number plate recognition camera, although whilst these are great at plates they are not so good on general pictures. We can't put another camera up without using the electric feed off the plate camera which we do not want to remove as the bridge is not sited next to the yard.

You can request vehicle ownership details from DVLA if you have a valid reason for doing so. They are generally very helpfull and will advise if you contact them.

DVLA sell the info to car parks etc, so I expect you will have to pay.
Have you put the number plate into Google, that sometimes brings something up?

Go to Halfords and type in the reg number on there right battery application then at least you know what exact make of truck your looking for and have more info to give to DVLA.
Another option would be Askmid I think it's called, the motor insurance database, you may have to tick the box that says the vehicle is yours, I first heard about it several years ago on BF F when I think I and others were trying to find out if our first cars/tractors were still about. Not sure if it will be any help but it may come back with the make/model.

Can you go onto the .gov site that lets you check the mot status of a vehicle.
It will tell you the test station number where it was last tested, google that number and at least it will tell you what area its from.

Although its probably from your area.
works well with cars as it narrows the area down a lot

A nominal charge if you have good reason. As per JCMaloney;

https://www.gov.uk/request-information-from-dvla

In your case your reason is:
  • tracing people responsible for driving off without paying for goods and services
Use form V888; https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...ndividual-for-information-about-a-vehicle.pdf

Cost you £2.50 a pop plus time & stamps..
