Checking out possible scam

OK, I have been looking for a particular piece of farm machinery, price under £3,000.

Found what looks to be an absolute snip, hardly used and 33% below list price. Private sale, no VAT mentioned. What is more, it is only 10 miles away!

On further checking, I find the owner is a company director of a company that has only been in existence since last year. The company address appears to be fictitious. The correspondence address is a derelict farm house (photo kindly supplied by Historic Scotland).

Need I go on?

So, apart from local searches, which I shall do and should be easy enough in a rural area, how do we go about nailing this guy? From my experiences of getting my guns seized, I have no confidence in the local police! Let's get the farming scam busters launched! Of course, it might be completely genuine which is why I haven't given much information and if it is, I am still interested in a purchase. Meanwhile, Police Scotland is "receiving a higher than normal number of calls".....

Except it probably isn't. Odds are the the advert was written by a spotty teenager in Albania or the likes. They picked rural Ross shire so that folks wouldn't be tempted to visit as it's miles from everyone except Dry Rot.

Best to do is just ignore, or if you think it might be genuine, go for a wander in the landy to see.

Go and have a look - you'll either get a bargain or 100% concrete evidence that it's a scan.

...oh, and take some pics so we can all see (y)

I've done a search for the address and it comes up as a derelict house!

I followed up a similar advert some months ago in the same general area and Google Streetview brought up as an obviously empty house.

My local spy network is hot on the trail! No reply to my answer to the advert so possibly the advertiser has looked at my profile and seen that I'm local and spooked which would be a pity.
