Chemical store question

Location

A farm building has recently become available which I plan to use as a chemical store as it is large enough to house the sprayer as well as all chems/pellets e.t.c., the building is sound apart from the door which I could fit with a new roller shutter.

Does it need to have a sump in case of spillage?

Is it ok to park sprayer in same building?

dont see why not, just getting prices to add to a barn to do the same plus roof water tank/ filling inside with a drain to collect any spillage. Spray stores are meant to have a bund able to contain any liquid contents stored, doubt it will be long before all filling has to be done under cover as a lot of water contamination is supposed to come from drops spilt while filling and getting washed down drains

Between 110-185% of total maximum capacity of store depending on location and proximity to environmentally sensitive area. Authorities count available storage/pallet space and work out max capacity from that.
Even if you just have a couple of half cans in the shed but you have available racking for 20 pallets they work on that figure.
10 metres from surface water or 50 metres from borehole is also frowned upon I seem to remember.

Above is more for BASIS certified type store quality assurance bods might be more lenient

We were told we could not keep anything but chemicals in our store.
Had to move the Knapsack sprayer somewhere else along with the spare filler hose

here you can have the filling area and store together as you have less risk of spillage if all together and the sprayer can be stored on the filling area it makes sense

There was a good article in the pro sprayer magizine. I think the farmer from Suffolk kept his JD self propelled in a new shed with all the chemicals, there was also a wash down and biobed filter system included.

You will also need a spill kit, either mats or a boom or both, absorbent granules as well - use cheap cat litter , just as good as the expensive stuff(y)

We've compiled a guide on how to ensure safe, efficient chemical storage on farms which may be of use to you: http://safetystoragesystems.co.uk/blog/storage-of-pesticides-and-agri-chemicals/

Of course there are alternatives:

It might be easier to get one into a shed! A range of sizes, built in bund, sumped shelving, supports for the floor which means you can place a pallet down inside through the doors, etc. Very easy to assemble with full instructions.
