Chequers - The Master Plan

I think Chequers could be the best master plan in politics in a long time and if May pulls it off she’s a hero. Here’s how it works:

The deal has always been Canada plus. There are two issues. Parliament would not have voted for it in a majority out of the gate and the EU would not have agreed to the Irish technology border.

So the Tory party get together at Chequers and come up with a plan. Create a seudo deal that we sell to the British public as “Softish” but actually completey breaks the EU rules so can never be accepted. Boris - when we roll this out go and make a big song and dance in the media about how we are handing power to Europe and use some silly analogy that the great unwashed can get behind, DD - go to ground and figure out this Irish technology thing, let Moggy think he invented it and he’s the smartest man on earth. I will sell this dead duck to Europe and make them look like they are totally unreasonable when they reject it.

Roll on a couple of weeks. May pulls out Canada plus as the last ditch effort with Europe to avoid WTO. Of course they accept it as they have already offered it. They also agree to the Irish technology border to try and look reasonable after the last schellacking.

Come back home waving the deal like peace in our time clement atley style and the MPs have to vote for it as the aledged soft deal has already been rejected by the EU so it’s that or WTO.

Everyone wins and Boris and DD get jobs in the next parliament.

Yes. Like many villages back in the early 80’s we had a large scrub bit of ground and tumbling barns in the centre. Developers bought it but could only get permission for 4 houses. After a few months we get plans for a large restaurant. Village is up in arms, petitions fly, angry meetings at the council. Roll on another few months, villagers are happy to go with 10houses...

Where do the Russian spies and novichock fit in?

Chapter 7 - there is a sub plot. I did try to sneak a look at the last page to see what the ending was to save me the bother of reading the whole novel but some beggar had cut out the page. May instead now wait for the novel to be serialised or made into a mini TV series. Wondering who will be cast as Teresa May and Angela Merkel.

Yes but mostly a negotiation with MPs in the Uk rather than with Europe.

I agree entirely, that has been the problem with Brexit all along. The day after the referendum all MPs/ political representatives should have accepted the result and put their support behind the Brexit negotiations. If they had done we would now have a much less divided country.

Why?
Should not all MPs and others have accepted the 1975 referendum?
Of course not.
It is right and proper that our elected representatives should question the government at all times to ensure the country us heading in the right direction.
The truth is the country is divided down the middle and no amount of platitudes will cure this, only a strong government could, but there is absolutely no sign of this in the near future.

That’s really pretty simple. A Russian spy deffected and then they tried to kill him. Been going on for years.

Didn't you find it a bit weird that they already had the Russian traitor in jail in Russia for years before he got swapped for a UK traitor .. good looking women now living in Asia I think.

Precisely! But we have to move forwards but how? I note that the Labour leadership have announced that if the party voted for a referendum on a deal, they would back it, so why in the hell don’t they just come out and say so! Typical of the opposition to knock whatever the admin of the day are doing. Like her or loath her, Theresa May is only doing what the electorate voted for - and I say that as a soft remainer at the time. If us leaving now culminates in EU reform and a return to a common market withou all the other strings attached, then this would be a good outcome IMHO. Likelihood of this on a scale of 10???

The reason is obvious.

Contrast to Theresa May's Chequers plan. Labour plans to show their organisation is democratic. Whereas Theresa May not only undermined her "Brexit" Minister .. she dictated her own will bypassing any form of democracy.

Theresa May herself wasn't vote in .. she won by default. Even her election "victory" comes at the cost of the DUP.

Labour are trying literally to make themselves look good .. which let's face it isn't hard.

She left herself in this invidious position because she probably didn’t believe in a hard Brexit and thought the EU would compromise. The Tories are spilt over this issue and the Labour Party deep down are too even if it is not shown on the surface. The only true way to find out is for a free vote. (No whips) in Parliament. Each MP to vote as they or their constituents dictate
