Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service has said a cow has been safely removed from the River Dane.

The incident occurred yesterday (Monday, July 15) around 6:20p.m near the Byley Road in Northwich.

One fire engine from Middlewich, one from Lymm, one from Knutsford and specialist rapid response, rope and animal rescue vehicles from Middlewich, Lymm and Bollington attended.

The cow that was stuck in the River Dane needed the help of firefighters to get out of the water, Cheshire Fire & Rescue said.

A plan was formulated between the rescue crews and with the help of a vet and the farmer the animal was safely removed from the water.

Horse stuck in bog

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew has recovered a horse from a boggy patch of field in Brecon.

The rescue service was called to an incident in Libanus, Brecon, at 12:00p.m yesterday (Sunday, July 14) and a rescue team from Brecon Fire Station and the animal rescue team from Pontardawe Fire Station attended.

Crews were met with a 20-year-old horse, measuring approximately 17 hands, that was stuck in around 4ft of mud.

The animal rescue team and Brecon fire crew formulated a rescue plan and worked together to successfully release the horse.

One of the main issues to overcome during the rescue was that one of the horse’s rear legs was stuck by suction deep in the bog and the horse had become exhausted trying to free itself.

Crews successfully rescued the horse by utilising salvage sheets, one slide mat, strops and shovels.

The horse was then put in the care of its owner and veterinarians who were also in attendance. Crews left the scene at 2:10p.m.
