It certainly didn’t dampen the trade! 264 mile round trip for 6 Cheviot Mule ewe lambs. 😒 I wouldn’t mind but by 2/3 of the way through the sale I was taking strong tuppers too 150! And still being left behind!😂😂
Forecast is set fair. It looks like the whole Country connected to sheep are going to be there.I cant see the point myself, for buyers. They will make ridiculous money.Far better to go to some lesser known sales. To think that only 3 years ago,you could buy good gimmers for £80,and no one wanted them. They will probably average £180 or more, and everyone wants them.

If I remember rightly the ewe lambs averaged £149 all in which was seriously dear for this time last year. It remains to be seen if they can lift as much again this year.? 🤔🤔

They were a tremendous show of lambs last year. Very few small runners at all. The extra entry this year though? Last time it did this the sale was swamped the next year with Cheviot mule “ewe lambs” that should have been in a store sale. Just crap bred altogether. But the trade is that hot this year I can’t see it affecting the good bred gear. I’m TB testing on Tuesday or I’d be up there! 😁

God you’re happy tonight aren’t you?! Bloody massive car park both sides of mart. Won’t be an issue at all! Go in the car, shape yourself and just leave them for Derek Armstrong too worry about getting loaded! 😁😉

Longtown is within my own hauling distance, just 40 miles. The car parks arent all that big really.Wagons take up most of the room at the lakeside.

......................until they drop back to £65.............
I hope you aren’t alone tonight… hells bells you’ll be slitting wrists soon! We know it might happen! Hope like hell it doesn’t… when they drop back too £65 I’ll be ready too buy double the breeding sheep as they collapse too. Every cloud has a silver lining if you look… 👍😁

That would push the Gimmers to over £200,you would think.

Ayr Scotch Mule gimmers averaged £181. So roughly £34 above the ewe lambs on same day

If Longtown lambs were to average around £160, you'd say Gimmers would be around £195 but yes £200 had to be a strong possibility.

Something I don't think any of us ever though we would see!

You are right of course. My ewe numbers are down at the moment, and i could easily carry twice as many.I just dont fancy paying £200 for them.

Our ewe numbers are just idling along too at the moment. Waiting for the drop… it’s worked for years, can’t see why it won’t continue too do so! 😉

You don't have to pay £200 do you. Just keep a load of ewe lambs back, fat lambs to tup are only £100 now or stores to run dry in the £80's be much better to keep double of these and sell half next year surely. Mule yearlings are far to strong trade of me to keep loads so I'm selling most (except the funny headed ones) and have replaced them with home bred Suffolk mule ewe lambs, half will tup the other half dry. What ever happens they will be sold next year and replaced with mules for similar money.

That’s mad your missing the good years with sheep, you should keep a self replacing flock and keep your numbers up at cost to hell with buying in replacements always to expensive way to it that .
