Once again, after a trying spring and a dry summer they still managed to produce the goods as today the quality of sheep on offer was second to none, which in turn was well rewarded with another great sale. Simply outstanding, well done. The Board of Directors, auctioneers and all the staff at Longtown thank all purchasers and vendors alike, who travelled to Longtown from as far afield as Caithness, Aberdeen, Devon, Cornwall, Cheshire, Wales and Northern Ireland and stood all day to purchase the finest Cheviot Mule sheep in the country.

Cheviot Mule gimmer shearlings were first to enter the ring, with an increased entry of 3,374 which was just under double on the year and sold to a brisk trade. Top end shearlings very good to sell whilst the smaller more commercial types proved slightly harder to place, achieving a very satisfactory overall average of £181.34 (-£8.26 on 2020). Topping the sale was a pen of 20 outstanding Cheviot Mule shearlings consigned by regular consigners Messrs R McNee, Over Finlarg, which went on to realise £232, which for the second year running breaks the centre record.

PRIZE LIST

GIMMER SHEARLINGS

1st – IHG Warden, Skelfhill, Hawick, £210 to RBT Reid, Bengall, Lockerbie.

2nd – R McNee, Over Finlarg, Dundee, £232 to RW & SC Porter, Dunfell View, Kirby Thore.

3rd – Messrs Beard, Dormansteads, Roweltown, £195 to J & M Tough, Easterseat, Carluke.

LEADING AVERAGES:

CHEVIOT MULE GIMMER SHEARINGS

McIvor, Hartree Mill 30 @£220.00

Warden, Skelfhill 124 @ £200.00

Floors Farming, Rawburn 206 @ £199.00

Wilson, High House 137 @ £197.00

McNee, Over Finlarg 203 @ £196.00

TOP PRICES:

Cheviot Mule Shearlings - £232 Over Finlarg, £225 Hartree Mill, £220, £218 Rawburn, £212 Hartree Mill, £212, £208 High House, £210, £208, £205 Skelfhill, £205, £202 Marwhirn, £205, £202, £200 Over Finlarg, £200 Kingside & High House.

Cheviot Mule Ewe Lambs sold to a blistering trade averaging a staggering £141.83 (+£10.33p on 2020).
