My wife has had 6 eggs in the incubator for the kids to hatch the chickens we only had 2 hatch now ones died at 48 hours old and the other ones chirping non stop like they do if they loose the others, I’ve not got a broody hen at the moment so at a bit of a loss of weather to knock him on the head or try to rear him on his own

Put a teddy in there, we used a bright pink duck teddy last time we had under 4 and they stuck to it like a mum.
try and find someone near you with some hatching, we’ve got 12 hatching tomorrow but I’m a bit far from you.

Make an artificial broody.

Put a 90w light bulb inside a ceramic plant pot and hang a cloth mop head over it.

At first we were putting 6 eggs in, ending up with 3 every time eventually hatching and making it. Now put 12-18 in at the start and end up with 8-10 chicks.
Got 12 silky bantams 6-12 week olds if anyone wants some

I went to visit a new gamekeeper to the area. As I waited for my ring on the door bell to be answered, I was watching a cockerel that seemed far tamer than your normal free range chicken. Then it started flirting and mounting a pair of wellies on the doorstep! The gamekeeper later explained that it had been hatched from an egg put onto the top of the Aga to amuse the kids and the newly hatched chick had imprinted onto the first moving things it saw ... Feet!

I suggest you continue as you are doing and give the kids a lesson in imprinting. It is a fascinating subject and works in different ways in different species. But be prepared to end up with a sexual deviant!
