This is what I went with, hotline chicken electric net. I also put in extra electric fence posts that are taller so I could put another hot wire round the pen. The extra posts help keep the net tight as well, with out them I would be a bit disappointed in the net.

I’m intrigued when farmers sell eggs at a lower price than Sainsburys charges for their premium eggs (£5 per dozen on their website) or Waitrose (£6.40 per dozen). Surely farm-fresh ought to be a premium product and the price charged accordingly?

I’m not criticising you personally, I hasten to add, it’s a common occurrence in farming - we undervalue our time and our produce.

I’m planning to sell my pastured eggs at 90p each or £5 for half a dozen. If I go into a petrol station they’ll expect me to pay £1.20 - £1.30 for a crunchie, kit-Kat etc - that’s nothing to the normal punter - so 90p for something as wholesome as an egg seems excellent value.

Likewise in the pub, £5 for a pint is normal now in many places, half a dozen eggs for the same price, whilst not as much fun, is surely better value?

Slight trouble is that within 2 miles there are 2 people selling free range eggs at £2 per dozen

I’m not sure if normal UK law applies in that part of darkest Essex.

As others have said, every other farm / small holding around here sells eggs for £1/ half dozen.
Whilst not difficult to argue properly pasture reared free range eggs are better quality, there is price pressure and don't think you'd sell many/ if any eggs at £5/ half dozen in this area.

I don't think that is legal. At least one of them buys most of his eggs in from a commercial operation and pretends that the 7 hens in his front yard lay dozens of eggs a day.... Is that legal too?

Tesco put fake farm names on packaging. Its all to do with marketing your products.
