We use deosan summer teatcare plus and find it leaves the teats nice and soft. I saw a company online adverting IBC's for around £500ish but I cant find it again.

MVF were doing buy one get one free last summer on summer teat care plus. I think they're normally £900 so it was down to £450.

Do most people only use chlorhexidine in the summer only and why?

I used to use it all year then as my housed period got shorter I moved to an iodine barrier dip for winter and this year I've stayed on the barrier dip so far. It's far better for teat condition than the chlorhexidine but is dip only, not spray.

I realise that it is very hard to quantify but do you think you get less mastitis for using it ?

as you say cant really say , but if better teat condition and less rough areas for nasties to hide , then you would imagine it would help

Nah, I hate things hanging and cluttering up my pit and it doesn't take any longer to dip than it takes to spray properly. If I ever move to spraying I'll cut out the middle man and put in a walkover.

I hate the spray coils would have walk through but find cows not milked out etc... When you go to spray them.

I've a drum coming made up of lactic acid and glycerine. Meant to be top job for teat condition. Time will tell, using tricide atm.

On the subject of not turning down a freebie, I was trialing a lactic acid dip for deosan last summer. They gave me 400 litres, it was so bright yellow that it looked like cartoon nuclear waste but I thought it was a good dip.
