My kids don’t open presents till we’re in for breakfast,was the rule when I was a kid so kept on with it,also encourages them to help you get done.

yup. Stockings allowed to be opened as soon as we woke up (and it was a rugby or hockey sock, not a bloody great pillowcase) . All other presents were after any jobs (not many as not a farm) and after morning church.

We weren’t allowed Christmas dinner if we hadn’t been to church,the rule seems to have been dropped now.?

Same here. Was never allowed to open presents till dad was back in and had breakfast!

Same again here. Seems common in farming circles. We always did stockings first thing and presents after lunch. I think it's good as it spreads the whole day out and makes the whole day last longer, we still do it now even though there are not hours on the farm to do first thing. I think we would repeat the routine when we have a family of our own. It works well.
