Christmas Weekend Weather Forecast 22/12/17

The weekend is looking rather mixed, but temperatures are going to be slowly on the rise. More below.

I'm holding some one day Farming Weather Schools during the winter and spring (running form 10am to 4pm). The aim of the course is to help you spot and maximise weather windows on your farm, make the most use of internet weather apps and to help you better make your own forecasts for your farm. A moist westerly flow through the UK and Ireland on Saturday. This brings low cloud and some drizzle to western coasts and hills. throughout the day. Many inland and eastern areas will be dry with a fair amount of cloud, but with higher cloud bases. The cloud will be breaking here and a few bright spells may come through.
More persistent rain in northwest Scotland as a front spread southeastwards. This turns heavy in western Scotland later in the day.
Winds W 15-20kt (F4-F5) in the south, 25-30kt (F7-F8) in central and northern Scotland.

Christmas Eve

The moist southwest flow continues through Christmas Eve. The fronts in the north will be slipping slowly south bringing the more persistent rain into Scotland. Rain is likely to be heavier in western Scotland as well as the north and west of Ireland.
Drizzle and low cloud affects western coasts and hills. Drier in the east with the cloud breaking here and a few brighter spells coming through.
Winds W 20-25kt (F6) for most but SW 25-30kt (F6-F7) on western coasts.
