Cider

bugger me, I thought that place would have become a des res by now. I came across it back in the ‘70’s whilst backpacking one summer, interspersed with fruit picking and cider drinking. Thought I had landed in heaven. Only thing on the menu was faggots and lease, wonderful. Took the missus there some time around 2010, just the same. Brilliant atmosphere, a real pub. They let us kip in the car park in my old VW camper van. My dogs, 2 collies and a parsons Jack were made just as welcome as we were.
Long may it continue.
A few good nights/rough mornings there early 90’s. But the SH bar was a bit more user friendly I suppose

Must get back down there, I love the Mendips, always wanted to move there. Think it’s maybe too late now. Still a weekend away when all the C19 stuff calms down. Something to look forward to.

That's a bit over kill! Apples are easy enough to get, then you need something to crush them with, collect the juice, bottle, insert stopper gently -- and wait. There will be natural yeasts on the apples and putting the bung in gently will allow excess CO2 to escape without allowing other gasses to enter. That's the way it has been done for hundreds of years. A bit haphazard and why there are/used to be so many grades of cider and, of course, so many refinements in the process. For what is involved, the prices quoted as being charged are outrageous.

Can we do poteen next week? This is getting to be fun! :)

like I posted earlier, it's easy to produce the hard stuff, full strength, or, for the hardened, 20% stronger, it's a fascinating hobby to get into, and very easy to do, the only downside, seems to 'evaporate' rather quickly, and as I can't drink it. the offspring claim you do not get a hangover, as there are no added chemicals, so I can't prove it was them !

Getting a bit short of booze as I don't want to go into supermarkets. Anyone here make strong dry cider and sell it mail order? Seems most of the online suppliers are on the rip-off. I remember the heady days of the Cider Bar in Newton Abbot when the local farmers brought in cider in dairy chemical cans!

The Cider bar is one of the reasons I don’t drink cider any more. That and Tuckers Grave, which many on here in Somerset will know of :)
