Claas Arion 640 problem

Hi all. Asking on behalf of my dad. He is finding after breaking hard in his Claas Arion 640, when he comes to accelerate again it seems to make a bit of a noise from the front axle and the front axle seems to tighten up with the steering going slightly heavier, once up to speed again it doesn’t sit at a constant speed it seems to start a rocking motion, forward and back almost like it’s labouring. But once he slows right down and completely stops and start again it runs fine. Any ideas.
Many thanks

Take the front prop off and then try it. 4wd engage when you touch the brake pedal is one of my pet hates on a tractor. Over time it wrecks 4wd clutches and front axles and propshaft parts. Its such a lazy way of achieving 4 wheel braking. I wish manufacturers would just develop a braked front axle and be done with it.

Maybe its not releasing the hydraulic pressure, faulty solenoid. Had a similar fault on a smaller Claas, pressure was too slow in dropping when brakes were applied then it fired up fault code and locked itself in 4wd until you stopped the tractor and started it again.
Dealer changed handbrake switch ,footbrake switch until eventually sussed out the solenoid.

Agree with Spotty Dog about about 4wd engaging when you apply the brakes, have Same tractors with brakes on each wheel far superior system, 4wd is only on when you need the extra traction.

Do you know if it was a big job replacing the solenoid?

Don't know tractor was in the dealers yard, as the tractor was under Maxi Care Extended warranty, took 5 months to get it fixed from dealer first notified. (n) The dealer had to t into hydraulic lines and use pressure clocks and eventually sussed the hydraulic pressure was too slow in dropping (no pressure the tractor is in 4wd,either braking,4wd engaged or tractor stopped) the the system alarmed and locked in 4wd.

If you can get the driveshaft off from the front axle and see if that eliminates the problem but be careful testing the tractor out as you will only have braking in the back axle.

Either the brake pedal switch or handbrake switch can also affect the 4wd engagement. Its not easy to get a street smart mechanic and sometimes main dealers take a long time to get to problem

Thanks for replying. Will see what the dealer says.
Thanks 👍
