Claas arion 650 disappointing performance

I took my new low loader and excavator on a trip today which was within, but close, to the legal limit.
I found that the weight didn’t boss the tractor, but the performance on hills was dreadful. I haven’t done much heavy hauling with it, but couldn’t believe how gutless it was, down to 12k on an incline which, frankly, is dangerous.

What sort of weights are others towing behind this tractor, and do you feel they are powerful enough to do it safely. It’s left me feeling quite uneasy about using it next time. I think I’d have been better off with my old Tm140 on the front.

What age is the tractor and how many hours? Tractors do need to warm up properly before they perform, after all all digger drivers start their diggers and let them warm up for maybe 10 minutes before they use them.

Reality is you have to go up maybe 30 hp if you are changing from an older tractor pre emissions regulations strangling them.

Its environmentally friendly to sell a far bigger heavier tractor that uses more diesel but emits less polution.

2015MY on 5500hrs. Had the tractor running whilst loading machine, probably 15 minutes or so to let her warm through.
Perhaps I am expecting too much from 180hp.

But surely the tractor is bought on it’s rated horsepower.. some will be just on the rating and no more, some will be a good bit more. None should be less? Emission setup should not kill the hp? Transmission’s make a big difference, vario seem to be very power hungry, but the hexashift should fly along. Local contractors ones here go like stink.. Check all brakes are free then put tractor on a dyno.. if still not happy you might have to accept that 7.5 hp per ton is just not enough.

Those series arions were terrible on the road had torque curve wrong for road work always seem to have power in the field but on road flat as a pancake always feal like hand brake is on!

The only way to liven then up is get dpf deleted they dont need any more hp as they like blowing up back ends but torque curve needs adjusting for road work

when we used to pdi one used to think there was somthing wrong with one, if you went from a t3 640 to t3b 650 big let down claas had a go at tweaking them but didnt make much difference

I agree, I haven’t felt it lacking in the field. Pulls a 4m Freeflow around no problem at all up and down hills, 4m cultivator etc.
I thought the trailer brakes were binding, but on a small slope in the yard the whole unit rolled easily so there can’t be too much resistance.

Not keen on mapping, to be honest it may well have sealed its fate. I’ve been considering changing it for a while, I may have to consider is a bit more seriously now. I just wanted to see if mine was a pup, or they were all like it!
