Claas Arion and Trimble Autosteer

We have just recently bought a new Claas Arion which already had Trimble Ez Pilot,a Gfx 750, and a nav 900 fitted.

We had the tractor out on demo and I really liked the system, the only thing that got on my nerves was the activation button for the Autosteer was an aftermarket item in a awkward spot.

The tractor is fitted with the CEBIS joystick which has an auto steer button on it, I asked the dealer to wire the trimble system into this button which they told me the couldn't do.

Is it possible? I know its ment to be for the claas system but surely a button is a button? I wasnt sure whether the claas dealer just wasnt allowed to do it?

We run a CFX 750 and EZ-pilot on a Cebis joystick equipped Arion 630. I was told by Trimble (AS Comms) at the time of installation that Class wont let the Trimble equipment talk to the Claas joystick to allow them to use the button as I was keen to use that button but it seems its Claas only GPS kit that can use it. But Claas were way out on price however nice the integration would be. I still use the engage button on the bottom right of the screen though considering an aftermarket button/footswitch.

A good Trimble man could find the wires which run to that switch and make it work.
Any switch can be programmed to work, the screen just needs to 'see' it, and be told what it does.

Theres an awful lot of switches on the joystick I assume everyone doesn't have wires coming out the bottom? They will go to some sort of circuit board in the stick wont they?

Odds on it will be a CAN connected joystick. There will be some circuit board/IC on the stick. The interface to the rest of the tractor will be 4-wire CAN bus. The wires here are a effectively a computer serial bus carrying data messages rather than voltages or just NO/NC.

pin 17 on the claas joystick is 12v plus when pressing the auto button. you only need to connect it to the pin that grounds remote engage on the trimble side. i have done it both whit ez-pilot and autopilot

I have a CFX750 with Nav controller on an MF not Claas. In the headland management set up one of the options is auto steer engage, so whatever job I’m doing I set this and then just click the headland management switch to engage steering. For some jobs it’s the only thing I’ve programmed into the HMS.
Can you not use that way on your Claas?

It might be possible with autopilot (built in steering valve) but with the EZ-Pilot (steering wheel motor) there is no wired connection between all the gps kit and the tractor itself so essentially the tractor has no idea that its connected to a gps steering system.

Sorry. Didn’t read EZ pilot in the first sentence, just thought full autosteer.
