Show gossip
Claas dealers are buying in new holland combines to keep customers going till new claas arrives.
No claas machines to be had seemingly
It’s not gossip it’s fact, our dealer has sold 36 combines and only 12 I think it was scheduled too arrive this harvest…
Most trade ins already been taken off farms and sold on again so they’re having to buy any make/ model second hand they can get there hands on AND warrant it for the season too..

You’d just end the deal and buy from somewhere else if they wanted your old one without giving you the new one wouldn’t ya

Combines aren't the only thing in short supply from what I've heard. Forage harvesters and mowers that some customers ordered for this season still haven't turned up.
It's not just a problem for Claas, other manufacturers are struggling with supply too.

I went on a tour of Saxham the other night, there were various New Holland’s and John Deeres in the 2nd hand shed which they quite openly said had been bought in as stop gaps due to the supply problems they were having with micro chips etc.

There was even a Massey 40 in there which is going to be something of a disappointment compared to the Trion the buyer was presumably expecting?!!

Our trailers last year were ordered November 2020 and turned up 2 weeks after we finished chopping maize 2021 😂 so sat in our yard all winter before turning a wheel… our 4 rotor rake was ordered September 21 and isn’t expected too land this season apparently now 🙈 nothing anybody can do though just keep going… if you back out and try but a different brand the price has probs gone up 50% on your original deal so your stuck

I think the finance agreement/ bacs payment or whatever is signed when you order a new one hence the old ones have gone as part exchange and the deal is done it is just that the farmer /contractor has not got their new machine but paying finance on it possibly. The combine manufacturer has the money from the sale hence why they can afford to purchase a second hand one as a stop gap replacement. The only other problem for the farmer is that technically they might not be able to use the intend Agricultural Investment Allowance (AIA) in the year they envisaged due to no machine being delivered according to the rules.

New machine delivery timescales have been a major issue since covid, with zero sign of improvement, good luck anyone who's waiting for a new machine to turn up!

And claas are taking plenty orders for next year. Will they have caught up in time or snowballing the problem again?

They've all got to keep taking orders to stay in business, I was speaking to a farmer recently who'd been quoted on a new JD tractor and had allegedly been informed if ordered now, they may see it possibly for autumn 2023, sounds horrendous for both manufacturers and customers alike.

Could be some cheap combines in a years time when the dealers have to offload these machines?

I doubt it, the dealers will be going through these machines with a fine tooth comb and replacing parts and spending time on labour, etc to keep them reliable, so nothing cheap about the whole situation.

Fair play to Claas for doing what they have though.
