Claas Dominator 98

We are looking at moving away from Massey Ferguson combines having run 27 & 29 in recent years and rather than upgrade to a newer red machine, step across (spending more money but not buying any newer than the 29) to a Claas Dominator 98.

What are users opinions on this, I know many people swear by them, but they do seem expensive. Hamblys are close to us and seems to be loads of used parts available from breakers.

Thank you.

Good solid machine, wouldn't worry about not buying from a claas dealer if you know what parts of the combine to check carefully before purchase. Easy quick parts back up service, well ahead of Massey engineering for its time.

good simply reliable combine that's a nice size for your workload cut 400+ acre with one for 5 seasons and luckily never had any issues, could maybe of done with a few more ponies though

98vx is a nice machine to own, new ish cab, good through put, basic enough to allow home repairs without have a guy and machine pitch up. Your area the straw is going to be important and it handles it well. If on a lot of hills then consider a 108 with lateral tilt on the header.

Thanks for thinking about me Rob, I've been away to Germany of all places. We saw a lot of maize still to combine and many many Fendts!

I had a Dominator 98S for 12 years and found it an excellent machine. I have replaced it with a Mega 350 which has the APS, a better cab and is hydrostatic.
If you buy a Dominator 98 I suggest you get a 98SL, they have a Merc engine and are hydrostatic. You could also go for a 98 VX which have the better cab, Rodney Cowle often has some.

Sad to see it go..
Been offered an unbelievable price for it in px for a 1300 houred case CT 5080 (TX 68 painted red).
Hope it does the next 11 seasons as well as the 34 has..

Is that the one Corfields had?

Having gone from TF44s to TF78s you will not hold it in as high regard. The TX/TF of the 30/40 era were sophisticated for their time but still simple iyswim without electrics. 60 series txs were cracking machines though and have a lot more work in them than the equivalent lexion, which seems to look very tired over 2000hrs.

Yeah that's the one.
Bought it subject to viewing...

hi nick having seen photos of your tx34 you had one hell of a deal don't think they will sell the 34 at what they are asking for it
Ha...
Doesn't look to pretty in pics does it.
But when you have closer look under tin work etc its diff machine..
I'd have no hesitation cutting 650 acres with that machine again next summer.
900 was bit much to ask and couldn't get enough done in between showers go try get grain in dry..
That wax main reason in change as we only have 12 ton mobile dryer so want corn cut dry where poss.
Diff rotation inc ww, wb s beans wosr s barley not in that order will make life easier.
Very very pleased with new purchase.
