Claas Jaguar 870 - 493 to 492

Recently purchased a Claas Jaguar 870 (Year 2007). This is a 493 version instead of the 492.

The forager is missing the complete feed unit and the small gear pumps.

For some reason, it is nearly impossible to find a complete 493 feed unit so we have two options; Dismantle the forager or try and install a 492 feed unit.

We tried to install the 492 feed unit on the 493 chopping frame. But these two are not compatible.

For the next step, we removed the complete chopping frame from the 493 and installed a 492 chopping frame from our other Jaguar. The 492 Chopping frame installed perfectly on to the forager and we were able to install the 492 feed unit on the 492 chopping frame.

We are just re-working the hydraulic lines to get it to work.

Mechanically, we should be able to run the forager on this new setup but will the electronics play along? Has anyone got any experience of converting a 493 series to a 492 and/or know a Claas jaguar mechanic who can point us in the right direction.

493 was the pre curser / test bed machine if you will, prior to the new shape 494 .
It was a limited run machine It was essentially a 494 chopping unit dressed up in in the old 492 chassis and panels.
The 493 / 494 were hydraulically driven feedroll
Arrangement where the 492 was engaged by hydraulic ram engaging a belt which drove the feedroll gearbox.
However once the 494 finally came about the hydraulic motor concept etc had all
Moved from the top of the unit as per your pictures to mid mounted behind the wheel with the final drive provided by a lemon tube pto style shaft into the gearbox.
The hydraulic motors were controlled with PWM solenoids so I think it may be very very difficult to convert back to the 492 set up as the Ecu control and software for the new type unit is very different to the old 492
and you will also have to consider how the detector control will impact your feed drive .
I think you will have real difficulty with this.
