They have , and this is the reason I am thinking of changing mine , the dam key sheared off when trying to put new bearings on the door hinge roller and I have had to swallow a contractors bill to get 1st cut done !
You have my sympathy!

If funds permit changing rather than overhauling, it sounds like claas have made the very necessary big improvements 👍

One thing that I have always wondered about with Claas is the number of rollers in it's balers. All the others seem to be putting more in on their premium balers going from 17 to 18 where as Claas have gone from 16 on the cheaper 520 baler to 15 on their premium 540 baler .

It’s about time Claas had a decent baler, compared to the others they haven’t made much progress since the 46.There are some excellent balers out there now, even JD have learnt from their mistakes.

McHale rep told me that claas balers spin the bale faster to make up for the lower number of rollers ( can't see why number of rollers makes any difference) which causes more wear and higher power requirements. Then in the next breath he said if you want to do the best job with a McHale run it at 600 rpm so it spins faster🤔. Our 354 takes some driving towards the end of a bale.

The Claas is very good at baling anything you put in front of it , never had a problem with dry straw for example like on my old vicon baler did or like you here about JD balers, I wonder whether this is because they have fewer rollers and thus each roller takes a bit more pressure and thus grips better on the crop.

Tell you what pull a 46 in and run it next to my 355 and we will see

I’ve got the old style wheels I’m to tight to pay for the folding wheels, netting is the same and just as reliable, don’t worry about the questions I’m happy to help 👍
Thinking of buying a 540 to replace my 354. Are you still happy with yours? Anything to look out for?
