If you look carefully to the right of this picture you will see a shadowy spectre of a person with a box of matches!!??The geezer who owns this one, hes another one of them misguided individuals!! payed a couple of grand for this several years ago! cut 200 acres this year and he had to fork out £130 for an alternator and some knife sections, and he has just been offered some more acreage to cut which has past its sell by date? and he says I gotta pay for the alternator!!
you just cant help these people! View attachment 202130

i was always impressed by the way kiwis looked after their gear, first rate maintainance, unlike lots of brits, especially livestock farmers. Some characters on here probably need to build a bridge and get over themselves. With regard to this argument between people who run new gear compared to older gear, there are numerous different circumstances out there that people find themselves in and no one recipe is going to be right for everyone..... I know of people that can't justify a combine but if they enjoy the art of harvesting and want to , then who gives a stuff what the pros and cons of running old gear are. Some people take a lot pride in keeping old gear tidy and reliable and can do it well.
Similarly if someone wants to spend the big money on a new combine, then what is the point in putting them 'in a box' by implying that they are just big noting show ponies. There are good reasons for buying or hiring new even if some cannot see them.
I would suggest that some of those p!ss taking individuals are just as ignorant as those that they are criticising.

You have obviously toured around Somerset then John!!!Ive got a theory about stock farmers...
1...they see an empty shed, they would rather fill it with livestock even if they lose money on them rather than put thier machinery in it under cover
2...they think nothing of a £1000 vets bill for a few antibiotics or injections, but if the loader tractor needs a 1000hr service, its like the apocalypse is coming
3...if it cant be fixed with either a 14lb hammer, silage tape, or hesston twine, its not worth fixing
4...washing down machinery is something what happens when a new pope is elected
5..grease...you know, that stuff in tubes what makes things slippy and last longer...
All prototype machines should be tested by stock farmers. If they can't break them it can't be broken.Ive got a theory about stock farmers...

have you never stopped to listen to the wail of a loader feeding cattle ..." greeeeeeaaase meeeeee" ?Do they not value grease similar to gold ?
Where do they get them maintenance fairies from put a machine away with a knackered bearing and it gets fixed over winter .. Trouble is it only seems to last 500 yds
I will find out details and let you knowThank you spike, wouldn't mind his number!!
