Claiming back VAT on a double cab

Provided it's over one tonne load bed capacity you can claim back the vat.

You'll find that most manufacturers quote it around 1070kg for this reason!

The addition of a payload reducing canopy is a grey area. As it's demountable presumably the pickup still qualifies for vat reclamation. I've never heard of anyone getting done by the vat man over it.

The revenue has accepted a canopy weight of 45kg hence the 1070kg bare carrying capacity (y)

Are there scale charges for private use?
And do not forget to charge VAT when you sell it!

When I questioned reclaiming VAT back on fuel for business use of my sole vehicle, I was told it was up to me to make a reasonable apportionment. I suspect if they did an inspection and found your apportionment was unreasonable, they could go back a long way to correct matters! Frankly, I've always found that if you are honest and fair with them, they will be the same with you.

Spot on - exactly what I do.

Be reasonable, don't take the pee - and they are happy.

Was told a few yrs back when I bought a LR 90 county that as long as you live and work from home (no private mileage to work), use it solely for business  and have another vehicle that is for private use then you can pretty much claim the VAT back on any vehicle.

May have changed since then though:scratchhead:

I used to be in exactly this situation but found using scale charges it was actually a better deal
if you lease I think you can reclaim the VAT on a car, but you would be very wise to speak to an accountant .

Sorry to correct you, but I know for a fact that you only ever use your Hilux for work and always use your mum's car for ALL non business travelling, and a lot of business use too, but due to your honest and straight forward nature you don't claim for the latter!!

Extraordinary what you can find out about a person through the Internet!;)

And Mum's car never breaks down, needs oil or tyres and does 200 miles to the gallon?
Where do Mums find these vehicles?
