Just seen on TV NHS staff being clapped and given flowers going into a supermarket for their special hour.
I would be embarrassed if that was me going in!

I've just heard it has been suggested that the #clapforcarers gesture should be extended EVERY Thursday night at 8pm until this horror has passed

Please encourage your neighbours and friends to join in again next week

Our communities can do a little bit to thank those on the front line, let them hear our deep respect and say something to their families who must be doubly worried at the moment

I went upstairs and opened a front bedroom window to have a clap and was met with cheering, applause, a handbell ringing, torches being waved about and lots of outside lights on.

When my father was a farm manager during the 1920s, living in the farmhouse with his batchelor employer and the housekeeper, she used to ring a large handbell to call my father or his boss, should they be wanted back at the house. I have that handbell in my posssession. I'll be ringing it tomorrow night.

Ring it next Thursday 8pm too

We have an air horn at work for a fire alarm in the workshop and I shall borrow it for next Thursday. Up a slight hill over the village so that'll carry

Just seen a BBC clip of people 'clapping' last night, loads of them clapping on doorsteps and by front gates, separate households right next to each other. :banghead:
Yes I saw that but then they were going straight back in. Minimal risk of transmission. Film on FB of two neighbours playing badminton over a party fence; one shuttlecock

In the big scheme of things I still think it's marvellous for the mental health and morale of front line workers and their worried families.

Some just said on Facebook if your a Tory and clapping, then F Off
Yep, leftists trying to make political capital - for an irony - out of the crisis.

The fact is that no government has ever said 'let's have another 30,000 ventilators and staff to run them'.

The idiotic shadow health spokesman made a comment about Germany having 20,000 ventilators, and it being a crying shame the UK didn't too. Well, the governments since 2010 haven't scrapped tens of thousands so where are the vast number that Labour commissioned? Oh, that's right, when in office they didn't increase the numbers to the level they're calling for now, but are being very quiet about that fact.

A hell of a lot of very good second-guessing is going on now, from people who aren't in positions of responsibility and weren't yelling about these deficiencies even just a month ago. W*nkers.

We as farmers could stand up now and say UK food policy, we told you it was a shambles and needed serious review. Supply chain too focused on supermarkets.

Doesn't win you very many friends at this moment.
Our time will come.
