Clarkson on the nail again?

Isn’t the problem that 90% of Ukrainian’s exports are mostly by sea which the Russians now in the main control plus with many of their silos still full then storing this years crop that they do manage to harvest will be short of suitable storage space

I s'pose the real problem starts if (and when1?) the west decided to open a safe sea lane from Odessa to The Bosphorus. Now that would be fun. Though from what I have read Odessa is not much of a rain port, that tends to be shipped out the sea of Azov which is right up the east end of the Black Sea and that one near Crimea. Hey ho.

A good article that completely avoids the the issue of vested interests.
A lot of criticism of organic comes from big business who don't make any money from it.
Of course the government would back private firms owning and leasing 'Crispr' produce. But farmers would be just as well to invest in fake meat as be enslaved into making profits for them.
"Organic" doesn't have to be unscientific, either. A lot of it could use much less fossil fuel, though ~ although this holding isn't "organic", so could be behind the times in terms of cutting edge "organic" systems.

Hadn't really thought about it before, but you would be fairly 'organic' if you did not buy any [non-mechanical] input from a multi-national company.

I think a major cause of poverty is lack of education, and I will add, if [we know that when] we educate women in the third world, they [can earn their own livings without arranged/forced marriage which means they can choose to] have fewer children, which again is better for the globe especially in terms of global warming.
[Polite cough, but I do understand what you mean 🙂 ]

Just leads to more wars than anything else-look at Serbia, the island of Ireland, several middle East states etc.

Look up the term "ethnic cleansing"

And, of course, this is Putin's reason for sending the army into Ukraine.

Also Racist, but I suspect you don't mind being tarred with that brush.

Chucking about the R word in an attempt to shut down debate us why the far right is rising across Europe.

Why wouldn't it be? Russia isn't destroying the roads etc. in the areas it's fighting in let alone the rest of the Country.

If/when there's a truce everything (Ukrainian wheat, Russian gas) will start moving again.

Clarkson, being a petrolhead should be asking why petrol and diesel is so expensive-despite the much heralded cut in fuel duty.
Crude oil is currently cheaper than it was when the Ukraine war started-there is no energy shortage, just massive profiteering by energy companies with the compliance of the UK Government.

The (mainly US owned) fert makers have sussed out the UK Government as well-create a crisis (shortage of CO2, expensive fert) and sooner or later they'll get a subsidy.

Putin may or may not be "unbalanced" but there's no doubt whatsoever that our current Government is inept
Many roads are bombed to bits. For several months much milk has been tipped away due to logistics or fed through pigs

The Ukrainians themselves collapsed countless bridges to stop the tanks getting to Kharkiv, remember that 40km convoy of armoured vehicles doing 5km/day, the dozers and diggers were at the front trying to fill rivers in and moving trees/obstacles

If they hadn’t the russians would now control Ukraine
As every western military expert has said logistics Wins or loses an over seas war

You have a go because I don't say what I think we should do, then you have a go when I point out that I have already said what we should do. Make your feckin mind up.
I recall we were trying to nail down whether you accept Clarkson's view that there's a food crisis coming,
and after some subject changing and squirming, you stated you consider there isn't.

Now you seemingly want to introduce your ELMs plans to try and make yourself look clever and distract the discussion.

Why not just accept you don't like Clarkson, and tend to disagree with him on general principals.
(Or better yet, seek therapy for your continued desire to pick fights on-line)

Either way, I've no interest in discussing it- or much else- further with you.

How much bread gets chucked every day ? How much fruit and veg never makes it out of the farm gate ? What tonnage of human grade meat gets fed to pets every year ? And on, and on, and on.

So, no, Clarkson isn't 'on the nail again'. It's far more complicated than his simplistic whingeing would have you believe.

Apologies. From the constant posts on here along the lines that Govt needs to reassess ELMS because there is a food crisis looming, I thought folks were very much seeing the two as connected ?

Remind me, what is the point of a forum if everyone agrees ? If we wanted that we would just read the letters page of the Daily Mail.

Either way, I've no interest in discussing it- or much else- further with you.

Don't be like that. Won't buy any more of your books if you're going to sulk.

Talk of private Frazer, his lovely daughter Veronica now sadly passed away bought this 80 acre moorland farm & then gave it to Devon Wildlife but not before kindly giving our family a 50 year FBT after we had worked with her for several years restoring the boundary walls & clearing all the scrub.:)

Very little of which actually gets 'chucked away' in any economy. Other uses are found for it, some being very very profitable such as pet food. Some less so, like bread going for cattle feed. Very very little gets wasted at this level. By far the greatest wastage is at the home storage and cooking stage. In some countries, of course, there are great storage losses from rodents and insects and great savings could be made there, mainly in third world countries. Unfortunately if they haven't got that basic issue sorted by now, I don't suppose that they ever will.

That’s ok then. I’m sure @Lowland1 will be pleased to tell those in North Kenya that by not throwing food away and not feeding their pets, they’ll be fine. :banghead:
