The bloke is a self publicizing loud mouth, no more. The fact that so many see him as an ambassador for UK ag, simply because he is able to whinge more eloquently than the average farmer, says a lot about the industry.
Think it's more to do with the fact that unlike the waste of space leader of the NFU he's someone the general public actually take notice of & listen to, for far to long farming has been a voice in the wilderness that governments can simply choose to ignore, at least with Jeremy the public take notice & that in turn means so hopefully will the government!

Sadly you miss the point, nothing to with the average farmers eloquence, more that they will actually print what's he thinks, remind me what page of the Sunday Times is your article is printed on? Because I doubt they would print my thoughts.

But he is not whingeing -he is making a very public observation (which he is in quite a unique position to do ) of the circumstances and reactions of those around him to them and giving an opinion on the likely consequences of this .
The main point is -he is not a "yes " man tied to career consequences etc -so can say it like it is or is in his opinion ,this has had personal consequences for him in the past but he still says what he thinks - a rare quality in these" woke times " IMO .
Wether you like him or his manner or not is irrelevant to the subject .

Exactly, more non farmers have voiced positive comments to me since JC & Kaleb put our industry to the forefront of our normally anti famer media. From my perspective I say carry on Jeremy & Kaleb, keep up the good work & go well!!!!

I have no doubt that you do a lot to promote British agriculture to your followers, but have you educated and informed over 6 million people per week for 8 weeks?
I’ve had more supportive conversations with non farmers walking through our farm since Clarkson than I ever had before. He’s not perfect but who is?
As for whinging, have you watched the last episode of his first series? If he sat at his desk and told the world that all in agriculture is rosy he’d be doing his readership far more of a disservice.

Makes you think when Kaleb himself has probably done more good for this industry regards public perception than anyone of this forum in the 25 years.

Nowt to do with the fact that he has access to the public via his newspaper column? Dunno about you but I don’t have a newspaper column, therefore I am completely unable to whinge directly to the public in admittedly inelequent fashion. So I’m happy for Jezza to do it on my behalf.

In between putting forward positive proposals. I don't like whinging, don't see the point.
Clarkson is a commentator. He is paid to put forward his view on the world as he sees it, to articulate his observations in a way most of us cannot, to an audience most of us could only dream of. Commentators are not there to offer solutions, they commentate on the situation as is. Its for policy makers to decide, commentators can and do help steer the national discourse.

I don't see many positive proposals, apart from your self identified prophecies on ELMS. Clever you. I used to really value your contributions on here but lately your unhinged, constant and seemingly pathological farmer bashing has become tiresome. If you can't stand us all so much and find our whinging so intolerable, maybe its time to go back to the commune and bodge a basket or something.

Quite.
We don't have a food production crisis. We have a food chain crisis.

We have had a food chain crisis for some time.
That crisis has now reached a point it is going to help create a production crisis.

The price of gas has hiked the price of fertiliser.
The war has accentuated covid related supply problems.
The reduction/ loss of BPS has removed the farming safety net.
Environmental schemes are increasing our costs.
The supermarkets are freezing, reducing prices.

in wikchapeada hes stated as being, amongst other things 'a farmer ' and also mentions that hes dismissive of renewables ,
Lol.

Hmm. I bet his balance sheet is something to be proud of. Yes he's a good wordsmith but there's a brain and an enterprising individual behind it

Your digging yourself into a deep hole with your 'anti Clarkson comments '
Hopefully someone with a spade will come along and fill the hole in before you manage to get out !!

Whatever anyone writes for a newspaper or any publication, it has to pass the editor(s) and the their legal team. Sometimes you stride a very fine line. But keep it factual and backed up with truthful facts not a wish / whinge list, and always end on a joke - and you won't go far wrong.

I gave my editors indigestion for almost 20 years. ;)

I think JC and Kaleb have done a brilliant job for UK Agriculture.

Similar to Nigel Farage then?

and find the idea that he is some sort of ambassador for UK ag laughable
Let's agree that as an industry we do need some sort of ambassador with a public persona.

And now name someone who is more effective....

You don't have to like him but from what I can see he's the individual who's taking the message to the public the most.

Prepared to see evidence to the contrary but if there is none I suggest folk understand who their friends are and be grateful.

Although that's as likely as Shrewsbury winning the cup! (edit: FA cup)
