Clarkson on the nail again?

Again: I don't know what it is you wish me to 'put up' about. What, specifically, is Mr Clarkson complaining about ? I can't give you an answer if I don't know what the question is. It may be that I don't consider the question to be valid.

(Don't like the bloke. Never have done. Didn't like him as a petrol head, and find the idea that he is some sort of ambassador for UK ag laughable. So, yes, i'm biased) .
you do like to play little word games don't you?
you implied you didn't think there was 'a problem', I asked for your prediction, and you changed the subject

We all know you'd hate Clarkson, for any of several reasons, but why not have the strength of character to give us your predictions?
Do you think there is a food crisis coming, or not?

No.

But for the sake of argument, lets say yes. I agree with Mr Clarkson. There is a food crisis coming. What does he say we should do about it ? He doesn't. Because he is just a an obnoxious wind bag. All whingeing, no solutions. Proper farmer.

What do I say we should do about it ? See my submission as to what ELMS needs to look like. As in, the first person on here to say what ELMS should look like. A year before Janet rocked up on here. A year before they had even come up with the name SFI. I had said what the solution was before you muppets had even got round to whingeing. And, my god, all you have done since is whinge. That, to my mind, makes me one of a very small minority on here for whom your 'put up or shut up' challenge doesn't apply.

Too late for what though?

I would think that farmers are possibly better placed than most to face the coming situation.

The problem as i see it, is that we're expected to carry on spending as per usual, while the corporate food system decides what to pay us.

I suspect I'm not alone in being very reluctant to follow that path.

We are definitely better placed than most and you have summed things up well.

The current circumstances are such that for many, reducing production is the right business decision.

Every week that passes, more breeding stock are being culled, land left fallow and less fertiliser is being spread.

It is pretty critical to stop the probable decline pretty bloody quickly.

Some of this will be decided by the supermarkets and the buying public. Ultimately the first and last thing to buy is food. Shiny cars or designer clothes don't keep you alive.

The problem, as highlighted on every other thread is that supply is going to tighten. It's a question of when, not if, the people making the buying decisions realise they will have to bid up the stock. How late will it be?

What price would wheat and all other stuff we grow have to be guaranteed, before everyone happily trots out the usual order for fertiliser?
Grand average for my 10 month suck calves before I would think about it and even then I wouldn't just to spite them

When I started farming sheep and cows I decided that subsidies were not for me. I prefer to be self sufficient with the barest minimum of interaction with government as possible. If farming alone doesn't pay the bills I just hire myself out to earn the extra money I require.
I can sit on the sidelines and watch all the bickering and hand wringing with some amusement.
I do however appreciate that a certain amount of infrastructure is essential for me to carry on, markets and abbatoirs for example, these things are worth arguing for.

Well done.
Delilah says there won't be a food crisis.....everyone can relax.
Delilah.....have you told Oxfam et al?....cos i think they're at variance with your opinions.

As for your pompous 'I've already told you all the answers, i'm so clever, you lot do nothing but whinge'....you presumptuous erse.
I was in a meeting discussing this with the CE of NE this very week as it goes.............you don't know a quarter what you think you know.

You have a go because I don't say what I think we should do, then you have a go when I point out that I have already said what we should do. Make your feckin mind up.

Of course there is a food crisis about to happen you would be mad to disagree with that.
ok lets not call it a crisis, lets call just it a major (massive) shortage

Clarkson isnt offerng a solution as he has no idea what the solution could be. but he is right in flagging up the very real dangers ahead

There are some large elements of truth in this. It’s the worlds poor that will go hungry first and suffer the most. They will come to Europe and who could blame them.

The EU and the UK haven’t handled the challenge of immigration well over the last decade and far right groups have gained lots of traction. I don’t know what the answer is but there its all going to lead to a huge mess and discontent.

Its interesting how Europe and the public opens it doors to white Ukrainians but wants military on the border when equally needy black Africans come knocking on the door!

There's nothing wrong with wanting to preserve one's home nation's culture and ethnicity.

Multiculturalism doesn't work. That's why London is awash with black gang bangers stabbing and shooting each other, Asian rape gangs prey on white girls, and the authorities we pay to protect us turn a blind eye in the name of racial harmony.

in fact, I'd consider in this instance he is a 'columnist'.
A journalist shouldn't be extrapolating, merely reporting.
(i think)
He's an informed columnist though, having "done" some farming.

I doubt anyone really disagrees with what he says; some might just disagree with whatever he says because they don't like him.

What's missing for all of us, producer and consumer alike, is what the heck is the solution?

Maybe, but isn't this the first real opportunity to regain some farm profitability for decades?
