Class Liner 2900 Tine Arms Wearing

Got the above machine which hasn't done a huge amount of work, although years out of warranty. It has removable tine arms that slide into sockets that are fixed within the main body/gear casing of the rotor. The socket has grooves/teeth within it which locate and hold the removable arm in place. I can't believe how much these grooves have worn. So much so that the tine arms have a lot of movement and are now causing the sockets to shear off.
Anyone had similar issues?
Looks like the only solution is fitting new sockets which looks a fair involved job with the 2 halves of the gear casing needing splitting. Probably best to fit a whole new set of sockets whilst its being done but ££££. Any idea of cheaper sources than Claas UK?
Thanks

How old is the machine? Did you buy it from new cause a number of years ago there was a problem and claas came out and changed the tine arms. Might be worth a call to the dealer in case yours slipped through the net?

Trade it in as a repair job like that won't be cheap

Thanks. The plate says year 2010, but also model year 2011. Is this in line with others that have been changed? We bought it new. I'll pay the dealers a visit and see what they say.

Iv a 2014 machine which hasnt done a huge amount of work either. Its been well looked after but is falling to pieces cracking welds and arms breaking. Absolute scrap in my opinion wont be here much longer

How many acres have you done? Would my 2010 liner 2800 suffer from this as well eventually? I've only got 100 acres of grass so it not like it's doing hard work, perhaps I should sell it before it falls apart..

the 2900 and the 3100 seem a bit of a lemon cause they reach out so far there is a lot of strain on the body causing it to crack unlike the 2800 and below. This isn't the cause of the splines wearing but could lead to other parts breaking.

I've been to the dealer this afternoon and sat in front of the service managers screen and searched for any mods. None relating to the failed parts. If replacing the socket then ideally the slide in arm would need doing as well to start everything tight. Discounted price per arm £250 for the parts.

Ouch, at 14 arms per side that's £7k without labour to do it, would be cheaper to trade it in.

Think your safe enough at that were doing 2000 a year which still isnt that much to be disintegrating already. Theres alot of pressure on them in heavy wet crops in irish conditions. They simply arnt strong enough

I know of a few 2900/3100 2/3 seasons old that were sent back to have all new sockets and arms fitted think the deal was class paid for parts and customer stood the cost of labour I have seen one so worn the whole arm would turn in the socket your dealer should have come across the problem unless they don't sell much grassland equipment for them not to have seen the problem contacting claas U.K. might be the another option

Why rake wet grass , we never do , silage is to important to be making wet , if spread with the mower , tedded if needed and raked you won't have wet grass .

I appreciate all the comments. If anyone has anything in writing relating to the arms being changed by Claas then please PM it across. This branch of Manns won't have sold many but I guess Manns as a whole ought to have sold several. Anyone have any contacts higher up the chain?
