I have just come back from a trip to the local supermarket. As per normal I had a quick look at the magazine rack to see that this months Classic Tractor mag has a free copy of FMJ include with it. As an old regular subscriber to Classic Tractor and a new one to FMJ. I am slightly miffed to see this offer which is available to none subscribers and not the regular people who buy Classic Tractor year in year out

So I take it that if we subscribe to classic tractor then we miss out on the freebies? Well it may be time not to renew this year. I notice Rory Day is not commenting on this.

Gentlemen, I'm sorry for the delay responding, have been in and out of the office for a couple of days.

Let me firstly respond to Mr Happy's query. Sir, you are correct that a PAST copy of FMJ is currently being bagged with the latest issue of Classic Tractor in Tesco (at least I think it's Tesco). This, I believe, is a special two-week promotion (it is not in general newsagents or other supermarkets). The idea behind this is twofold. Obviously the 2-for-1 deal acts as a good incentive to purchase Classic Tractor, but just as importantly its aim is also to introduce readers to the newly launched Farm Machinery Journal because clearly as can be seen from this post there are many people who still don't know it exists. By introducing them to it through Classic Tractor, they might decide they like it and buy it on a regular basis.

Similar 'bagging' exercises have been carried out several times in the past with our sister title Earthmovers and also with Classic Land-Rover magazine from Key Publishing. From what I can gather the magazine that is given away is not the current on-sale one.

Multi-Power from Pembs - this all sounds very familiar to me and not the first time you've had a pop. Perhaps it's a personal thing or maybe you are mistaking us for another tractor title? Please feel free to share your thoughts on why you think the magazine is so bad. I have broad shoulders and do listen and act on constructive criticism from regular readers.

Gavin J - "I notice Rory Day is not commenting on this". Apologies for the delay responding, I've only just seen this post.

In terms of looking after our loyal subscribers, there is a £5 saving (over 12 issues) on the full cover price to people who subscribe and they also get the magazine posted out free. However, this is getting into the realms of marketing which is not my specific field and this is probably not the place to plug the benefits of subscribing. Of course we greatly value our subscribers who are our most loyal readers.

In summary, from what I can gather the current promotion with Classic Tractor is limited to Tesco and only for a short period.

Regards
R Day
