I would like to se a classic round baler spread as must be plenty still in regular use or any other machinery also to revisit some of the earlier fleet profiles to se what they have got now always wondered what two of them got now was a farmer in Scotland that had think it was 20odd David browns and contracting brothers think they were from Ireland and used big white case tractors wonder if they are still on the go?

@rorsday hiw about a comparison of 90s 6cyl tractors? 40 series Ford, 3000 series Massey, 5100 Case, 6000 series JD, F series Fiat. Have them doin things like mowing, on a trailed forage harvester and carting silage. Compare them on performance, fuel use and how easy or not easy to see go use on each task. These are the tractors that a lot of people are still buying to work and would be a useful test
Think Classic Tractor did a comparison between the 8340NH The JD6800 and a few others a few years back. Iirc the JD came out on top due in part to it being 'well ballasted' for the cultivation tasks.

roadless ploughmaster/ MF 185 was a typical one. Ford on narrow tyres was best at ploughing, but couldnt keep up with the wider tyres perkier MF on cultivation work

Hope it wasnt @multipowers 40 series they had for that test with the 6800, it wouldnt have made it out of the yard without dying due to "unforseen electrical issues"

They couldnt test that on the day as they knew it wouldn't be fair on the lesser rivals.........

incidentally.....MF 3080, JD3350, IH1056 and Ford 7810.....didnt the ford come second from last? I know the JD won, the MF had the best hydraulics and modern controls.....
Massey had the best controls. Those electric linkages were light years ahead of the competition. Despite the skeptics who said they were too complex and wouldn't stand the test of time. How the JD won is beyond me.

It was TM135 vs 6910 iirc, I honestly thought the TM won?
Yes they did that as well. TM came out a lot better on that one than i expected. Just goes to prove that the testers are professional and impartial(y) I expected the Deere to get a bit of favouritism.

The 8340- 6800- and 2 other ones which escape me, (possibly a case 5150 and massey 3120 or 3125 were involved) were done a few years before the TM135-JD6910 test.

Easy, apart from that hideous cab on it, its comfortable, has a good steering lock and a nice smooth and positive gear selection which doesnt require the driver to wrestle with a pair of 3ft long sticks connected by rubber bands to the gearbox

Oh, and it sounds nice as well

I bet it isn't easy to find truly comparable tractors without them being at opposite ends of the country.

even more difficult to find one just as it left the factory....things get altered, different wheels, water ballast, front linkages, weights, in the case of the 1056 tested that had an aftermarket turbo bolted to it!!!

makes my 1594 adjustments seem trivial doesnt it

to get a 30 year old tractor thats in fit order and still in exact factory spec is tricky

Hi @rorsday

Personally I would like to see a 2wd ploughing feature.

Back in the day 2wd tractors like Ford 6600 / 7600, MF590 etc plus 4furr reversible would be the ploughmans choice.

My personal fav, that I woul love to see featured, is Fiat980 2wd.

Also I used to love watching local contractors at work with mixed fleets of 2wd tractors and barrel muck spreaders.

You do a lot of Old School Silage features, how about Old School Muck?

Thanks

TSS
Article on the 80 series Fiats in general would be good. Classics such as the 880-5, 980DT (a personal favourite) and the 1180, 1580 and 1880 models.

To be fair the 1056 tuning didn't make him look like a prize twerp filling the place with black smoke.

Excellent idea.
IIRC there was one with 2 brothers farming next to each other with a selection of small but immaculate Masseys, mainly 2wd. Somewhere like Cumbria I think:scratchhead: Proper old fashioned.
