Not sure how many were built, but I know of two more on farms within three miles of here!
Have seen quite a few advertised since I bought this one up and down the country.
Like the telehandlers they were available as farm or industrial, think the main differences are lower roof, second and third service, mirrors and various wheel/tyre sizes for the agricultural version.
Engines fitted were all Perkins D3-152 three cylinder (industrial version of the one used in later MF135’s).
A completely new model was released in early 2000’s.

My brother in law has one. High hours now. He struggled to get bits for the engine

Very surprised about that.
When the head gasket went two days before Christmas! I stripped it down and found it had cracked two liners, so decided to replace pistons, rings, liners, big end shells, and of course full gasket set.
Rang P.V.DOBSON at Kendal, and everything was in stock, everything back together and up and running before New Year!

It was a cracked block I believe .he struggled to get a replacement as the engine mountings are different from a 135. I think he had it welded in the end.

Years ago, I would have been 10-12 years old, Dad used to have a bit of work done by the MF field test team. We farmed about 2-3 miles from the Banner Lane factory.

A massive MF tractor was parked in the yard one day with a 6 cylinder engine, four wheel drive and a cab never seen before. It had no decals but my brother and I were all over it.

Turned out to be the 699. I recently thought it strange because I don’t think they were built in the UK, but in France.

The story was the top brass at Coventry werent convinced a 6 354 was needed, a 188 was tried with one then destroyed after the decision not to continue was handed down from on high

There is , or at least was , an MF 185 , with an 8 speed box and a Perkins 6 354 fitted , about 3 miles from me.
The tractor Massey should have made.
