I’m posting from the situation of having a contracting business for 32 years and spending my working life on other people’s farms day in day out when all these Ford TW’s were on the large southern estates in there pairs and Your Marshall was bought new. The TW’s finished many estates relationships with Ford and Marshall buyers never repeated the move either.
My TW ended my relationship with John Deere!
Then eventually knocked out the MF's, IH's and Renaults too.
That TW was the first Ford (NH) we ever had.
Now I only run them (3 of which 2 are classics) and JCB's (Fastrac and TM 320S loader).

It so much depends on the experiences we have of all makes as to where we each end up.
And every one of us will be different.

There is more to the farming life than riding around on modern kit all the time.
Why do we run working classics?
For some, it is because the modern kit is unjustifiable.
For others, it is because we know the faults/can put up with and can fix them without having to pay a fortune for a guy from the main dealer to come out and fix it with his laptop.
Then there is a huge reason, being that they are a pleasure to use and create not only interest but nostalgia too.

Here is one of mine being used in a perfect situation yesterday that kept me very happy all day!

This job didn't need one of our mainline tractors at double the horsepower clocking up an unnecesary hour.

Well put
we pulled 10-12 ton trailers and 6mt plus rollers etc etc
With under 100 hp on steep hills up in cumbria
Now they need nr 200 horse we used 3-4 bag fert drills front and back mowers ok only cutting 90-100 acre a day with a MF699 in the 80-90ts
But it can still be done ok
ok now using 130 hp now but look after your kit and it looks after you
Prefer to have two tractors for under 25-30k (thats both) than one for 50 pluss
Ok only 40 k well jcb 1135 is nr 50k
How many tractors do you pass doing 50k with oil brakes on trailer not air lol
Up the classics
With the ford super q and xl case cabs etc and more
air con no noise or dust
Spend all day in em
Passed a 200 hp JD with a 8 ton bailey trailer full of FYM could pull that with an old 2140 ralmfao

Just as much as I love driving classic tractors the modern machines do have distinct advantages, which, during the busy season at least, make the jobs a lot quicker, easier and safer. Whether that's worth the extra billions charged for them is the $64k question!

Still want to know why we have to grovel around in cramped conditions when trying to connect the PTO though? Much more profitable to bung in a few giddy digital gizzmo's than address a basic engineering problem I should think

Planted some soya beans yesterday. Poor old JD needs a wash, but it's got a few jobs still to do first before I give it some TLC:

Do gulls eat soy beans? I hope not, and I had a good look and I don't think they were interested in the beans. I had to harrow in afterwards - I didn't put the zigzags on the back as they tend to pull to one side as the hitch is bent; plus this field requires loads of reversing into awkward corners.

My classic donkey jacket has been given to a new owner. I finally gave in to my girlfriend's complaining that it wasn't exactly 'smart' / that I looked like an old coal miner:
