Ive got an old set of chain harrows somewhere in the scrap pile i dragged out of a hedge when i was topping might see if theyre any use, its mad the fixed tine fergie cultivators done a far better job than the spring tine did!
If you got decentish working ground its surpring what job you can make with some old "scrap" just need a few passes with it .

View attachment 964354View attachment 964355Spreading with the Kidd Spreader today not sure how we ever managed to pull one with a Ford 4000 and I am certainly pleased not to be loading it with a 135.
Local contractor used to run 3 spreaders on Ford 4000’s back in the 70/80’s.they were a good mid range tractor then.bet there ain’t many or any Kidd spreaders still in use over here

That looks some lovely dirt on top of a hill. How come the bit next door is all rushy? Poor drainage?
Yea the rushy bit is really wet, and not many places to drain it to.
Yes it is lovely soil, has been worked alot over the last 10 years, between spuds, corn and grass. It used to be full of rushes but they've just worked at it to make something of it

I really don’t think you can beat them it seems the aim these days is to fling everything for miles but they suit what we do I reckon we did upwards of 3000 tonnes last year with obviously we can go all year but I wish I could buy another. We used to hire a 7 tonner for sludge lime and use our 4 tonne one through the winter at home. The only thing was the draw bar on the 4000 used to come loose so it was put on a bigger tractor. I worked for a contractor with 3 pulled by 6600’s and loaded with an MF Drott and we spread a lot of stuff with them. I hired a 12 tonne Bunning last year in England and it was just too big.

Yes similar a MF 300 a bit of overkill as they could go through walls whilst cleaning crew yards and could pick up concrete water troughs and deposit them in the spreader without knowing about it plus it weighed 9 tonnes so on fenland it would occasionally disappear out of site and moving it around on a low loader was not a job for the faint hearted.

I take it the original roof had seen better days ? There were many 500 series around here at one time, but I only ever saw the longer mudguards on the 595’s. Ideal size tractor for that job (y)
The tin worm did make a mess of the original roof, I have since replaced it. The second skin was added to try and cool things down inside, but she now sports air con so it isn’t really needed now. She is a French built import, hence the long mudguards, brought in by a local dealer. A really nice tractor to drive, flat floor, good cab access, good visibility, nice 3 stick syncro 12 gearbox. Just short of 9k hrs, burns a drop of oil and the hydraulics are getting tired but does the job
