Tried wrapping a bale with our new to us Kvernland Silawrap. All went ok except the bar which is supposed to grip the wrap didn't appear tomove out.

Ah yes you can adjust those things till your blue in the face and they still won't work properly.

The only known cure that i can think of is swapping it for a mchale. Which is what i did after several years of hassle.

Strangely enough the lad who sold it to us said he was changing it for a McHale.

Damn, I should have taken a picture earlier. I was trundling down the road in my 30 year old JD3050 this afternoon, when I came across a broken down 6155R Deere in a layby!
I stopped to offer assistance, but obviously I didn't have the right laptop with me (?:scratchhead::ROFLMAO:). Although the driver did ask about swapping tractors, as he thought mine might be more reliable!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

After baling, out with the wrapper. A new toy to us this year. Tried it yesterday and wondered if we had bought somebody else's problem! After a sleepless night and a few hour fettling, she's as good as new! Probably enjoyed the fettling more that using it. But it is very satisfying to make something work properly again after somebody else gave up on it.

Can I ask what was wrong with your wrapper?

Yes of course. There were far more things wrong with it that my ability to spell wrapper properly, that's for sure! Duly edited thanks!

Firstly, the wheels sat on the axle wrongly so that the whole machine sat too low to the ground and dug into the turf as soon as you went on anything too undulating. Causing divots to be made as the loading forks were raised to load a bale. So we turned the axle stubs round so that they sat below the axle beam. We just fitted longer bolts to do so. This raised the entire machine up by 100 mm.

Secondly, the hoop at the back of the bale intake forks was too far back so that the bale wouldn't land onto the bed in the right position, often landing on top of the rear cone.

Thirdly, he film jaws would not close far enough to grab the film, holding it ready for the next bale. Having taken the lid off the jaw mechanism, it was very dirty inside, preventing the stainless steel rods from moving freely. So we cleaned them with some cloth and put some light oil on them to allow them to move fast enough and freely enough during their entire cycle. I was actually quite impressed as to who the system works and how clever it all is.

Fourthly, the knife was very blunt and would not cut the film as the wrapped bale was being ejected. We sharpened the blade with a Carborundum stone and set it further out to cut the wrap a little sooner. However it then ended up cutting it too soon. Which meant that the jaws still hadn't fully closed in time such that they couldn't hold the film ready for the next bale. So we set the (now sharpened blade) back to its original position and it all worked fine.

In the end, I was mightily satisfied with the whole machine.
