Giving the Deere an airing on the baler on Sunday. First time I've had it on there and have to admit that I much prefer baling with that outfit than the newer tractors.

It's a Cooks belted sleigh I've just got it to try and reduce the amount of times I ha e to handle the bales. I was using an old 21 bale grab to bring them in but need a better grab. Dont want to use a flat 8 with the hooks for fear of the holes making air pockets.

Interesting thought, air pockets. Can‘t say I‘ve had any issues using a hook grab, time they are wrapped they are squeezed to 3/4 length which should push any air out. Can only find flat 10 sledges for sale, not 8’s

I'd never even thought of air pockets. I'm still trying to think of a cost effective way of making small bale haylage less labour intensive.
Saw this flat 8 grab a while ago on Facebook

Had thought about something similar for after wrapping but it would let you lift 8s without creating air pockets. No idea who made it but it wouldn't be too difficult to make one.

It's a similar problem here to cut down the handling . Normally it was singles out on the ground and collected with jeep and trailer up to yard and stack beside the wrapper. The belted sleigh is a bit of overkill for the numbers I do but it works a treat. With the 21 bale grab I was putting 4 on top of 4 .
Would a 56 bale carrier be able to stack 8 on 8 ?. The centre bar might help hold them in when travelling.

Many years ago we used to use a 4 on top of 4 sledge, I think it was a cooks too, used to pick them up with a squeezer on a an MF industrial. It was hard to stack to travel and we normally ended up hand stacking, particularly on trucks leaving the farm but it did work, and no air pockets not that wrapping had been invented
