Claydon Hybrid slug applicator

Ive been caught out this year and feel the need to fit a slug pellet applicator to our mounted claydon hybrid.

Can this apply pellets into the coulters or only via a spinning disc on top?

What options are there to control via the RDS isobus screen?

I’ve used stocks one came with the drill tho starts stops by it’s self just turn it on works ok spins it on to behind the Harrow. If you want pellets with the seed mix them with the seed.

Stocks Rotormeter here plumbed into the airflow. Took some time finding where to inject but works a treat now; switch on and leave it to itself. If you go into the airflow you’ve also got a second seed option for companion crops or put your osr in it and fert in the tank

Do you get any back pressure on that and pellets coming out through the sides of the fan? I ask because I’ve got an air assisted rotormeter going into the Venturi of my jd drill and I’ve had numerous adaptions to stop it doing as I’ve said. I did try millet seed through it into a cover crop mix in the main tank of the drill but more millet came through the rotormeter fan than into the drill Venturi. Have you got any pictures of how much fall there is and how it goes into the Venturi? Thanks

Look at a Techneat Microcast if you want to inject seed/microferts etc into the drill fan airstream.works well.
Picture of one on a Claydon on the Techneat website IIRC.

Yes! It was a proper head scratcher; after 2 failed attempts of trying to create ‘suction’ or at least low enough pressure that the stocks fan can overcome I finally injected into the Venturi assembly ABOVE the air flow and BELOW the metering cassette. In effect there is neither positive or negative pressure there (stick your hand in when it’s running to feel). It now works fine. It’s on a sprinter which are low and long so the run is quite horizontal; needing nearly a flat out fan to get it not to settle. I’m going to mount it higher and closer to the tank which will make it harder to fill/calibrate but will have a bit more gravity to help it along. I’ll try find/take a photo. Tried a load of slug pellets and used the one that took longest to dissolve in water as they’re buried.

Have a Stocks that feeds pellets down with the seed with our 750a. Not a lot of good. I'd definitely get a broadcasting one.
What’s the issue with yours? Mine feeds pellets better now although some come back through the rotormeter fan. The issue is lighter less dense material like small seeds don’t work at all and come through the sides of the fan. I keep trying other things but when I go to use it, it’s no good and by the time I try something else another season has passed.

we haven't needed any pellets in the last 2 dreadful autumns we've had. This year though I have 4 fields that have really caught me out. Wish I could have rolled but the weather didn't allow. Can only think the increasing direct drilling/zero tilling on the farm is building numbers a little...

I've got about 50ac that's been thinned out fairly, and that's on land that wasn't moved a last time before drilling and which didn't get a dose of pellets straight away. Doing a 2nd dose on a lot of land at the moment. I thought some fields were OK, but if you looked closely there gaps along rows and after a dig you'd normally find a slug either having hollowed out some seeds or stopping the new shoot coming through. We did a lot of pelleting based on estimated risk and I'm glad I did otherwise I'd have 500ac rather than 50ac I wasn't happy about.

I just think putting pellets down with the seed is not worth it. They seem to degrade too quickly. If I was more organised this year I would have liked to put a dose on a few days at least before drilling but we were busy pelleting stewardship grass so never got time.

Time is all ways the problem that’s y it’s good to have a one on the drill so it gets done. Same with applying after can get delayed. The dd disc drill has to go into the Venturi so the pellets are in the slot. From experience that’s the best place
Claydon spin on behind the Harrow has worked fine.
