Claydon SR vs. Claydon Hybrid

Ok, so i've posted the same question on another forum (no prizes for guessing which one!) and it'll probably be a contentious issue as whether a Claydon is deemed a 'Direct drill' or not but:

Been wondering whether to swap from our 5 yr old 3m SR to a new 3m Hybrid, main reasons are:
  • Hybrid is a ton lighter
    Easier to set up
Front tine is less disturbance, less pulling
More kit can be added to Hybrid making it more versitile
We can use Hybrid for Variable Rate seeding although, the SR can be upgraded for VR seeding (around £1200)

To swap would cost in the region of £10-12k, not sure whether it's worth it, the SR will easily do another 5 years without much money spending on it.

Haha!

It's dad that wants to upgrade the SR,
we also have an old combi drill in the back of the shed as backup, it's getting a bit long-in-the-tooth, my argument is that i'd rather spend the 10k on updating the combi drill, maybe for a Andy Guest unit?
I know it defeats the object of DDing but there comes a point where you need to get a crop in, and, as in this year where the ground is very slumped, the plough is doing a good job of lifting and getting some air into it.

Ok, now that's the can of worms opened, i'm not preaching what works and what doesn't, i'm just saying whats working for us.
