hi , my old combi drills getting a bit tired and thought I might swap for a used claydon, problem is I've only 135 hp available ,would this manage a 3 m for a few years until it's time to swap tractor or is there no chance it would deal with one .

I used to have a 3m SR which I had on a JD6920 to start with. The front tyres were water ballasted but it was on its limit. Mainly because the drill was heavy enough to boss the tractor.
Latterly we used it on a Renault Ares 826 and I thought that was a nice match for both power and weight.

i quite like the Claydon concept but can't for the life of me work out what is effectively a 3 metre drag with a hopper on can

A- cost so much?

B- take so much pulling?

Moves to much soil row width to wide for wheat no depth control on individual legs field need to be level which is OK till soil type changes in the field or whether the hopper is full or half full have now got a rapid as well will look a changing the Claydon next year

The plan is , year1-rape drilled direct into baled Spring barley stubble
Year2-wheat drilled into shallow stale seedbed
Year3-wheat drilled direct, some baled some chopped straw
Year4- s barley,plough,cultivate,or cover crop over winter
Not really sure which
Does this sound feasible ?
