I always thought that if we were ever in the need to establish a decent amount of cover crop in a quick amount of time, this set up would be ideal:

But then, £££...

When we went to France to see what Frederic Thomas was up to, I'm sure a lot of his acolytes where establishing their cereals with a terrastar type of arrangement, broadcasting seed into the maelstrom of soil flung up by the machine. A whole heap quicker and cheaper than drilling. Not so good for weed suppression, which didn't seem to worry them. Excellent for covers though, as E_B suggests

Can't really see the place one of these turbo tillers would sit in. If I wanted to do a shallow fast cultivation I'd either use a carrier type machine, or a tine of some description set nice and shallow.
Seems to me things are heading back to proper min till.

That was my initial reaction. I think Claydons would answer that this thing doesn't move the entire surface and so arguably doesn't entirely wreck the soil structure in top few inches. Also, I don't like the heavy press on the Carrier. If the soil is tacky and is to be left overwinter then it's best to just leave it.

I can see us using it to run over moled fields which are due to be spring cropped to close the moling channels. Also, it might do what we currently do with maschios after drilling things like beans.

Might use it behind wheat in front of winter barley to reduce volunteer pressure. The main thing I dislike with our current system is moving a lot of wet soil at drilling time. If we're going to move soil I'd rather do it straight behind the combine in the dry, and then drill with a low disturbance drill rather than a strip till drill.

As cultivators go inthinkmits one of the better options

Comparisons to a terastar are a little pointless as I've only ever seen them 2 or maybe 3m wide ?

For a fast cover crop establishment or a light surface cultivation where required it's similar to a carrier but cheaper

Certainly a better tool to have available than a rake ! Still think they are pointless as if straw spread is a problem they don't do enough to sort it IMO
