Some of my potential contract customers might read this :D

https://www.claydondrill.com/savings-calculator says £12-13/acre. I'd say a bit more but this will heavily depend on soil type, area drilled, hp, depth of the tines etc etc. A local contractor charged around £15/acre for his 3m seed only Hybrid until he got rid of it a few years ago for a Horsch Pronto.

I'd say a range of £13-20/acre. A straw rake is sometimes helpful but not always. Plenty of users managing without. I've done roughly half an extra pass with the slug pelleter as a result of moving to strip till, though the well timed use of a rake has helped reduce the pellet usage

@d williams runs a Mzuri and works on much higher levels of cost but the leading leg does more lifting
@willy used to have a 6m Hybrid

Excellent drill, such a simple machine, because it doesn't do any contour following it does a reasonable levelling job as it goes. It will follow a beet harvester more or less directly in the right conditions, potato harvester needs a lifting/levelling pass first.

Saves one to two passes each year, drilled 400 odd acres with a 3 metre this autumn, soon pays for itself, which is a good thing as Jeff sure knows how to charge for them!

The biggest problem we've had with it is that as it will drill into relatively uneven ground, if you follow the previous work, both gps systems we've got can't keep the tractor straight. The tractor tries to follow the previous work, drifts offline a few centimetres and corrects, which you wouldn't notice on a cultivator or subsoiler but shows up all year on drilling!

If you go at a diagonal to the previous work the tractor compensates far better, but you then end up with more short work.

Also we have a fert option and a small seed option slug pellets but I think the biggest thing that increases cost is ac covered in a working day

I have run both v drill and hybrid version s in the past and would say that if you want to make money contracting then make sure you are in an area where fewer contractors are found as there is always one idiot doing the job below cost to the detriment of others.
Offer rape and bean services first as they are the drills strongest suits imo.
I think the real drilling opportunity now lies with minimal disturbance no till drilling these days however as it can be another weapon in the perennial black grass battle.

How did you find seed depth?

It’s not as good as a drill like a 750a where you have individual coulter depth control alongside the coulter

But

It’s better than drills that have depth control behind the coulter as the delay makes things worse

It’s good enough for a strip till situation but zerotill demands a bit more precision I think

Well know fact the best way to make large sums of easy money quickly with out any hassle is a spot of contracting. But Unfortunately I haven’t the time. Only A neighbouring field for a neighbour. Nice that it’s come well for them. 2
