Cleavers

I have a small patch of oats which due to low rate liberator have no weeds👍, except cleavers. I don’t have a starane type product but I do still have a lot of MCPA and 24d which I mix for grass fields. Would on of those or a mix kill cleavers?
The labels only talk about perennial weeds🤷‍♂️

interesting, the previous owner left some of these behind, I normally use it on scruffy patches of grass...

CMPP kills cleavers

It's not great at it & needs warmth to work well, by which time the cleavers are usually too big.

I'd keep that for a more general broad leafed weed control or your scruffy grass.

Neither of them would control cleavers, you need a fluroxypyr, mecroprop or florasulam product.

Starane 🧐

as an aside, back in my leek growing days, I used to use starane. They would literally be lying on the floor the next day (scary as hell the first time) but did pick themselves up 👍

Yes if you want to get any kind of control with weeds in leeks you risk doing damage, transplanted leeks fair better but sown leeks are hard work

Tell me about it. I grew the barsteward things for 20 years. If you grow them, too too from adas some 25/30
Years ago, quarter rate guesagaurd mixed with just eighth rate totril gave good contact control, bizarrely even annual meadow grass

2,4D and MCPA won't do anything to cleavers. Need mecoprop-p or fluroxypyr/florasulam. Check approvals on oats mind as I can't remember. Don't use any of these mind until the weather is warming up a bit and they are actively growing.
