Click or crovect??

I winter shear my ewes around Christmas and so don’t shear now at this time of year. My ewes would have at least an inch of fleece on them now (some might have more). I usually apply a blow fly prevention around now due to not shearing. I have used click extra in previous years. It seems to be getting more expensive and I’m wondering would something like crovect do my job? I’ve never used a crovect type product.
I know the crovect won’t give the same time period of protection but even if I have to do a second application later it looks like it would still be cheaper.

Crovect doesn’t spread throughout the fleece like Clik does, so it only prevents strike on the areas of the body it’s applied to. I found I had to redo it every 6 weeks or would have fly problems. So for those reasons moved to Clik, 1 application on ewes does them for the season no need to worry.

Been using clik on lambs for a few years but going back to crovect/ectofly this year. Price for clik doesn't stack up in comparison. Will probably have to do them twice but will still work out cheaper., but we won't have the same length of fly season that many on here do

dysect is the best 8 week spray , but horrible stuff to use (dont get it on skin or you will have nettle rash itch for 24hrs ) spreads through fleece and will do full 8 weeks , normal click comes off licence this year so hoping for a more competitive product next year on ,
3x price of the rest , is pushing it .but still do lambs with it for peace of mind . Double price for double cover would be no brainer in all except lambs near killing weight ,

Unless you have a very short fly season where you are, I wouldn’t even consider Crovect. It’s not just the time & cost of doing it 2 or 3 times, it’s the hassle of checking them carefully, and treating the odd one that does get struck, as the product is wearing out.

As posted above, I’d only consider Clik of Dysect, and know they’ve been done properly. Dysect is a bit cheaper but it is awful stuff to work with ime, eating leggings, skin and pour-on gun seals. I will always choose Clik, given the choice.

We use clikzin on lambs and ewes in April and clik extra on ewes once clipped, need to have fly cover from April to end of October.
Clikzin has short withdrawal so still able to sell culls after lambing. Used to use crovect but still getting fly strike where no product so waste o bloody time using it as stock covered. Also always seemed to be coughing when using crovect
Dysect wasn't impressed with that eiyher

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I’ll just stick to the click. It sounds like it’s the only ‘walk away and forget’ job. Peace of mind is worth a bit too. I’ve always found click does it’s job well. Just had no experience of the others to know if they were anyway close to what click does. I’ll do the ewes now and let the lambs go as long as I dare and then do them with clikzin

Dysect will also take care of ticks and lice if they are present.
DON`T put Dysect on freshly sheared sheep (give them 10 days growth first) . When it first was released in the UK we put it on fresh sheared sheep and they ended up with bits of skin on the back wool later in the summer....... Not used it much since !! Although in fairness I think the label was changed after that first year or two . It`s also quite good at taking Bitumastic off metal shed sides if the sheep rub up against them !!
CLIK is my favourite if not treating for ticks.
