Clik

We use Click only on the tail head of lambs as a precaution. The amount applied is very small (5 ml?). Can it be diluted to give a better spread but without reducing the efficacy of the active ingredient?

It can be diluted with more clik(y) or use a fan spray nozzle instead of the bar nozzles?

Do not take my advice on how to apply click but here goes. We used to use 10+ 5 litre containers of click on ewes and lambs in May and June applying it with the proper gun and nozzle taking note of dosage. We realised how much of the product was on the floor and the gates of the sheep pens after a while and it was significant. We now fill it into jif type pump containers and actually hit the required areas liberally. We use half a dozen or so now.

Novartis did a demonstration on click here years ago and the rep said that application on a wet day gave better results. He didn’t say how wet is wet though

Clik spreads over the skin in the grease layer, which is why you can apply straight ‘off shears’.
Applying it in one spot won’t target that spot for protection (as it would with Crovect for example), it would just dilute the dose over the whole body.
A lower dose of ai, which is all that ClikZin is, will still work as effectively, but for a shorter time (like ClikZin).

It should also be remembered that, legally, even if you only use a 5ml dose of Clik, you still have to observe the full 40 day meat withdrawal.

7 days on clikzin which is very handy!

@livestock 1 i use T-bar applicators, arse only at the moment so just a /\ over the tail/arse and their done with not much product being used per animal, later on at weaning they get 1 stripe from shoulders-arse and then another /\ on the arse.

Last year 1 T-bar stopped working so I used an old clik fan spray applicator, it used 50% more than the T-bar. Bought 2 new T-bars yesterday ready for the onslaught next week!

It’s a shame they don’t do 10 or 25 litre cans of it though, surely bring the ppa down further.

Maybe that’s what it is then. I never had a t bar nozzle. The old click nozzle is very wasteful

The 10ml fan sprays? I had 2x 30ml simcro’s with T-bars yesterday, had 2 before but a felt washer broke on Monday and the other exploded when someone pressed the trigger as fast as they could. They’ll also throw the liquid 5 metre no problem if you suddenly see 1 while the race is emptying or if you send a mob into a field corner you can cover 1 lamb to save getting them in to trim 1 lamb!

Mine were short steel nozzles on the end of the old Phillips orange metal guns. The click comes out far too fast in fan type spray. Pump the gun too fast and it is applied in one place too slow and you don’t get the fan. You can empty the gun in a second

I used 1 of them yesterday as a get me by, did 2 lambs, 10ml in 1 dollop as you say, it’s been washed and dosing nozzle put back on as a backup.

Read the label and stick to what it says.

Under dosing like that apart from being a waste of time and money could also be encouraging resistance .

That would then just the spoil it for others as well .

Can't understand you guys saying the fan nozzle is wasteful. Are they worn out?
I think they used to recommend a new nozzle / gun each year which sounds like a good ploy for sales but they definitely get worn and spray pattern deteriorates.
I find the fan easy to use. Recommendation is to divide the dose into 3 or 4 squirts to cover the sheep.

ClikZin is the exact same ai as Clik, but at a quarter of the rate. Reducing the application rate seemingly just reduces the length of protection, rather than the efficacy.
Mode of action is very different to a wormer, as it doesn’t provide a lethal dose, just acts as a growth regulator. If a lower dose of Clik could cause increased resistance, then so could use of ClikZin.

Clik Extra is supposed to be effective for longer. The only difference between that and the standard Clik, is the higher concentration of the ai.

I love the fan spray but it uses a lot more than the T-bar unfortunately :/
