Bit thicker steel on standard ones . but its the Galvanising (preservation) that's more the important aspect really, like the eco's will last as long as the standards from a rusting out perspective, because they are galvanised the same .
same ecample with wood like no matter what the thickness of wood stake/post if they dont have effective preservative a 12 " post will rot just as fast a s a 3inch stake in the same situations.

I have had one or 2 of each bend /break like on hard ground if not pilot drilled with the knocker puttung them in, with a tractor careering through  a fence and an eco bent over when a ram was spooked and jumped over the fence near it .
not that i have found it a problem generally ( as well as for strainers we use wood or concrete turning posts actually ) but Neither will stand a push like 3 to 4 " wood stakes will no difference in them in that respect unless you go up to the beefys etc.

The other reason apart from cost i go for Ecos pretty much all the time is because of the simple fact that they will take standard configuration (8/80) stock fence .

Happy Days.

BTT.....has covered it pretty well .....standard posts won't take other wire configurations ( not that i've found) but take the xht mcveigh wire......this wire is so good you can strain up 40 odd metres and it'll stand up.....mvf brand stuff won't but i suppose other premium brands might

i put 200m up in spring to divide a bit of field off......strainers every 40m or so and standard post every 10m intending to go back and put more posts in.....not got round to it and might not bother

point being i'd go for standard posts xht wire but more strainers and perhaps posts 6m apart........don't put them in now as you'll bend them.....remember to buy the knocking in sleeve:)

my lot won't try it ....unfortunately there's lots of less well defended to go at😭

edit.....forgot to say.....put wire up first then go back and put posts in because if the post falls on a wire joint they're a pita to link up in post

Question 1
I have some C8 80 15 mesh to use up, as I understand the above posts only the eco posts will hold it properly?

Question 2
Why would you want a wire at the bottom of the post ?

1, yes only eco posts will clip into traditional 8/80/15.

2. A wire below the netting, helps to stop the grass growing into the bottom of the netting and pulling it down. Also adds a bit of height to the netting and helps fill any gaps created by humps/hollows under the fence.

don't go option 1....it's sh!te in comparison

i don't use bottom wire....put post in with sleeve....clip wire in .....then push post in a little further til wire touches ground :bag: 😁

I guess you have no experience of Welsh Mountain sheep?
Actually yes. Quite some time ago I bought a load of draft Welsh ewes. They escaped from places where no sheep had ever escaped from before or since. They would go through the gap between the wire and the mesh or the bits where the rabbits go under, only electric kept them in. Pity really as they where cheap and thrifty, and reared some nice Texel cross lambs. They just made the summer more stressful than it should have been.
