Peter Hepworth did not burn straw and used a lot of manure
he incorporated straw way before the burning ban

and spent a lot of time killing the moles that eat his worms

he was a man of his times but I am sure he would have adapted to the conditions we farm in now

Would cultivate in the dark so birds didn’t take the worms. Do I remember correctly, but didn’t he have a pig unit as well for muck?

Haha, yes I remember him regularly ranting about gulls pinching his beloved worms and would only plough/cultivate at night.
I also remember him sending his long suffering wife out into the fields to rogue wild oats and his not so subtle advertising of the latest bit of kit on his farm was a hoot to read...Dutzi every other bleeding word in particular! :D
What a bloke!

What a guy Peter Hepworth was. Had the good fortune to hear him speak and always read his articles in Arable Farmer first.
I always admire a man that calls a spade a spade. Could do with a few more like him now.
Went on a visit there once and always remember him referring to mice as "meeses"!

After the dutzi I do believe he got himself a FW60 with 2 sets of discs hooked together then followed with a 6m Amazon’s RPD combi outfit on that Fendt 626 he had.

iirc that 6m combi cost more to buy than a brace of 4m versions did!

Did he hate those meeses to pieces? Can’t remember what cartoon that was from.
