Personally I think that was an incredibly polite, calm and respectable way to resolve the matter given the circumstances.

Was very polite, I certainly wouldnt have been, the bloke must have been stupid to dump stuff with address on it.
Few years ago we had a transit van load of building materials dumped in one of our fields with the address of a local chinese on a delivery ticket, when I went round they claimed they had paid the builder to take it to the tip, who in turn claimed to have paid his blokes to do it, I said clear it up or the police and EA get involved, to be fair they did take every bit.

We had this tipped on drive last October just before lunch time. Postman saw transit tipper pulling out. We found address and got the same story.
The waste disposal firm did come and remove blaming a rogue driver. Local Authority were not interested.

We did a similar thing many years ago in the 80s
My nephew and myself saw a van pull up at the side of the road . When we was looking at the cattle , so we went over to look the bloke had the bonnet up so he looked like he’s broken down ,he was unloading rubbish into the ditch out of the side door, my nephew wanted go and punch his lights out, as we were standing in the hedge watching him then we realise we new ( this gentleman a do gooder out of the village) so we let him empty it all out.

So we went along and take some pictures of rubbish and put it on the pickup and trailer, then in the middle of the night we return it spreading it all over the garden (we did a good job of it)

Then he was in pub next night mouthing of the young lads had broken into garden and spread this rubbish around the garden ,then he put pictures on the village notice board .
Which was followed by mine few days later which had a date stamp on.
The out come was he had to go and hide under his little stone .
And he never found out who returned it . (He has died now)
